Learn How USB Works...
Then Put It To Work!
Data Programming 47
Not so long ago the universal answer for external control from a PC was the serial port. It was easy, it was simple,
and you really couldn’t mess anything up! Then came parallel port outputs for higher speed connections and
transfers. What came next? The “Universal Serial Bus” or USB.
Everything has gone to USB connections due to the speed,
reliability, and plug and play simplicity. In fact, go to an office
store and try to find a printer with a parallel port these days!
They call those legacy products... and legacy technology!
Well it’s time to get hands-on experience developing USB interfaces!
This board provides everything needed. All communication routines
are contained in a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) that is provided along
with Windows based diagnostic software.
USB Experimenter’s Interface Board
✔ 5 digital input channels!
✔ 8 digital output channels!
✔ 2 analog inputs and outputs!
✔ Diagnostic software & DLL included!
You can also write custom Windows applications in Delphi Visual Basic, C++, or any other 32-bit Windows development
tool that supports calls to a DLL. A variety of inputs and outputs are provided that are controlled and monitored
with the diagnostic software. Learn USB the fun way, and watch it work! From Velleman. (No dreaded blue screen
of death with this one!)
Dimensions: 4.11” x 2.14”
This professional quality USB
relay controller and data acquisition
module allows computer
controlled switching of external
devices, plus full bi-directional
communication with the external
world using the USB port of
your computer. The perfect
solution for Data Acquisition applications! The controller is very flexible and can be used for a wide
range of custom applications, including weather stations, temperature monitoring, logging and control,
etc.
It is compatible with both Windows and Apple OS X, as well as various Linux flavors. When you plug
it into your computer, it appears as a USB CDC (Communications Device Class) device that creates a
Virtual Serial (COM) port allowing easy communication with the board through any programming
language that supports serial communications (VB, VB.NET, C#, C, C++, Perl, Java, etc). A complete
set of easy to use commands are available for complete control of all relays, I/O channels and sensors!
ABOUT
The controller also features four onboard relay outputs with a current rating of 10A each. Also
onboard is a 6-channel Input/Output interface, with each channel individually configurable as Digital
Input, Digital Output, Analog Input (10-bit Resolution), or Temperature Sensor (Dallas-Maxim 1-Wire DS18B20 series). In Digital Input/Output modes,
each channel can support a TTL compatible or ST (Schmitt Trigger) input (depending on the channel) or a 5V output signal. In Analog Input mode, each
channel can convert a voltage of between 0 to 5V (or higher voltage using a voltage-divider) into a 10-bit digital representation. Finally, in Temperature Sensor
mode, each channel can be connected to a Maxim/Dallas DS18B20 series 1-Wire Digital Temperature Sensor (sold separately)! From CanaKit.
USB PIC Programmer
✔ Powered via USB - no additional supply required!
✔ 100% Compatible with MPLAB IDE (appears as a PicKit2)!
✔ Programs a wide range of PICS from 8 to 40 pins!
✔ ZIF sockets for easy programming & removal!
✔ USB cable included!
This is a fully factory assembled and tested professional quality USB PIC Programmer, offering ZIF (Zero Insertion Force)
sockets for quick and easy PIC programming! The USB port connection means no mucking around with old serial ports or
clunky serial-to-USB adapters. Just connect directly to your computer and you are ready to go!
The USB connection also eliminates the need for a separate power supply, as power is taken directly from your computer’s USB port.
This programmer is also 100% compatible with the PicKit2 interface, but unlike the PicKit2, it incorporates ZIF sockets for easy insertion
and removal of the PIC! I’d say that gives it the edge!
It’s fully Compatible with Microchip's MPLAB IDE - in fact when you plug it in, you can control it exactly as you would the original PicKit2, allowing
you to program most popular PIC Microcontrollers. Standalone windows programming software fully supported by Microchip is also included, and
the unit comes fitted with a sturdy metallic base and a standard ICD RJ11 connector.
In addition, it has onboard status LEDs to indicate programming and power LEDs, and the firmware is fully updatable as new devices are released. Updates to the firmware can be
easily downloaded via Microchip's official website. From CanaKit.
