• You’ll be covering record label management, music publishing, digital music
management and entertainment law
• In addition to a range of business topics, you’ll gain a specialised knowledge of the
industry in terms of music production, marketing and distribution
• You’ll help to manage C3U Records, the University’s record label, coordinating and
developing the label, signing new acts and working with existing C3U artists
• Keep up to date with current developments within the fast-changing Music Industry,
including developments in new technology and digital rights Management
• Work with businesses on real projects in your final year. Many of our students find this
an ideal stepping-stone to employment in the same organisation or sector
• Learn essential commercial and employability skills like how to use the accounting
software package Sage
wHaT IS IT?
This course, at Broadstairs Campus, is designed
to provide you with a comprehensive preparation
for potential management roles within the
creative and cultural industries, and specifically
the music industry. Music Industry Management
is a Business School programme taught in
collaboration with the department of Music.
wHaT wIll I STUdy?
as well as music business fundamentals and
marketing, in year 1 you’ll also undertake a
broad range of study incorporating essential
management knowledge and skills relating to
the management of people and information.

In year 2 you’ll apply your general business
acumen within the specialised music industry
context through modules such as record
label management. you’ll gain a practical
understanding of concert venue management as
well as the logistics to support music tours. you’ll
also study the legal framework which underpins
the commercial exploitation of music in the
global marketplace.
In year 3 you’ll further enhance your knowledge
of strategic management, and will have the
opportunity to undertake an in-depth music
industry project of your choosing.
How wIll IT HElp ME?
as well as the focus on the music industry, you’ll
gain a full range of theoretical, creative, social,
technological and managerial skills and resources
appropriate for employment in the music
industry, and be prepared for management
positions in production industries, service
industries and the public sector.
How wIll I BE aSSESSEd?
you’ll be assessed by a number of methods
including coursework, essays, case studies,
business plans, group projects and presentations.
a particularly innovative feature is the link with
local businesses in the final stage of the degree
provided by the Problem Orientated Project.
Many of our students find this an ideal steppingstone
to their chosen career, and go on to work
in the same organisation, or sector.

Typical entry requirements for this course are
240 UCaS points including CCC at a2 level, or
equivalent. all applications will be considered on
an individual basis according to qualifications,
background and experience.
