their first task was to fly over the
cadets on the adventurous site.
During this year, the Detached Flight
element at Thirsk was transferred to
the Northallerton Squadron, with no
further direct contact with
Easingwold. By 1992 it had
disbanded altogether.
1985 also saw the squadron enter
the Easingwold bed race. The
squadron’s bed was decorated as an
aircraft and was “piloted” by Rachel
Preston (the daughter of the
Commanding
Officer) dressed in
appropriate clothing.
The squadron won
first prize which was
an excellent result.
The bed was further
enhanced with
clouds of smoke
coming out of the
exhaust on passing
the finishing point
with the clever use of
a plumbers smoke
capsule.
