travelled each parade night from
Haxby to Easingwold and obtaining
sponsorship and publicity.
So began a series of van pulls over
the next few years. Mrs Joyce Carr,
friend of the squadron and owner of
the Cottage Inn, Haxby, waved this
first one off from her car park on
Saturday 8th March 1986 at 10 am.
The squadron’s cadets then
commenced the slow pull towards
Easingwold. The 12 mile journey
included the villages of Sutton and
Stillington. On arrival at Easingwold,
some 4 hours later the lads were met
in by Squadron Leader Broad, the
Town’s Mayor and Squadron
President. Thanks to Dave Smith,
the owner of the Fish and Chip shop
in Easingwold, who opened up
specially, every cadet was able to
feast on fish and chips. This effort
raised a much needed one thousand
pounds.
Camp in 1986 was at RAF Leuchars
in Scotland with several cadets
attending along with Flying Officer
Swales and Mr Mennell.
By the end of the year Warrant
Officer MacDougal had left the
squadron due to an employment
transfer.

always been very supportive of the
squadron.
On Sunday 23rd November 1986,
several cadets provided a guard of
honour at RAF Linton on Ouse on the
occasion of the retirement of Group
41
