as refiojgerent and a grateful restorative to<br />
relaxed bowels; but it is probable he may have<br />
confounded this species with the cactus triangularis,<br />
which Browne t calls the strawberry pear, and the<br />
fruit of which, according to Sloane, is the pleasantest<br />
of any of its kind, The cactus ficus Indica grows<br />
in Ceylon, with four other species, and is called by<br />
the Cyngalese judu-Icata-patulc. See Moon's Catalogue<br />

capsule or pericarpium of this species of convolvulus,<br />
containing usually four seeds about the size<br />
of kidney beans; and which are eaten when young.<br />
Dried, these capsules and seeds, as well as the<br />
. flowers, leaves, and root, are amongst the medicines<br />
which are supposed to have virtues in snake-bites.<br />
The dose of the seeds is about three daily, adminis-<br />
