This is a delightful book
of three stories—
three dierent
families, set in three
dierent times and
places near the Chesapeake Bay.
Although the Christmas season
is the backdrop, these stories
are enjoyable year-round.
In the rst story, A Family for
Christmas by Narielle Living, Zoe
Dearborn, single and the head of
Zoe's Extraordinary Beads, doesn't
expect to nd Abby, a lost toddler,
when she goes Christmas shopping,
or that Abby will involve Zoe, a
handsome stranger named David
and a grey-faced social worker in
a mystery. Concern for Abby and
growing love for her will take Zoe into
danger before the story reveals its
nal unexpected twists. It's a heart-

Christmas Eve, 1821
with Mahlah, the curious
18-year-old parson's
daughter who can't help
eavesdropping on her
parents' conversations.
e parson and his family
move into a new cabin
next to the crossroads
to try to convince parishioners that
it is not an evil place, in spite of the
local legend of deals there with the
Devil that cost men's souls. Two
strangers cross the Pritchard family's
path that night—one wild-eyed man
with a too-ready shotgun, fearful of
a panther he believes is stalking him
and the other with a gunshot who
won't give his name and believes he's
lost his soul. Mahlah
gures out part of the
mystery from what she's
overheard, but there
are still questions left
in this story lled with
faith and family love.

where we meet nineyear-old
Mary Elizabeth
Duncan of Richmond
in 1957. When Mary Liz
goes to Deltaville for
Christmas after a family tragedy, the
contrast between her grandmother's
Richmond social setting and her
two aunts' independent lifestyle
tonging for oysters from a deadrise
paints a vivid picture of the time and
places. Mary Liz is not above a bit of
rule-breaking to get to the truth of a
matter, and she takes the Deltaville
minister's Christmas sermon to heart
