events. The success
of these is dependent
on members of such

ROBERT HENDERSON
WELCOMES STUDENTS
The 15th Headmaster of Ipswich
Grammar School has officially
welcomed students to the 2011
school year.
Robert Henderson joined the
school in January, replacing
former Headmaster Denis
Frederiksen.
“It is my great privilege
to be joining the wonderful
community of Ipswich Grammar
School,” Mr Henderson said.
“The tragedy of the recent
Queensland floods has brought
heartbreak to our state and
devastation to many.
“Throughout it all, the sense of
community and friendship has
been an absolute shining light.”
Mr Henderson, who recently
moved from Perth with his wife
and three daughters, said 2011
would be another landmark year
for Ipswich Grammar School.
“My great hope is that all boys
have a positive experience at IGS
and work hard to maximise their
future opportunities,” he said.
“I am keen to focus on a
strong academic culture and
I encourage all students to
commence the year with
renewed vigour towards studies.
“I am also keen to encourage
and further develop the arts and
sport at IGS.
“I have a strong background
in sport, particularly cricket and
AFL, and I am looking forward
to broadening my horizons
beyond the Fremantle Dockers
football team and learning a lot
about other sporting codes.
“My major aim for 2011 is to
embrace and learn the culture of
IGS. The best way I can do that
is to spend time with students,
families and staff.
“Working together, I am
confident that IGS will have
an exciting future and I look
forward to being part of the
school in the years to come.”
SCHOOL STANDS TALL IN FLOODS
Only last month we saw
first-hand the spirit and
determination of the greater
Ipswich community when the
region was devastated by floods.
Ipswich Grammar School was
able to become an evacuation
centre, helping those in need and
offering a safe and secure home
away from home.
It was Ipswich Grammar’s
way of supporting the wider
community, and many of our
staff went above and beyond to
ensure people were well looked
after in their moment of need.
