The Wethersfield Band is divided into three parts: The Marching Band, Pep Band, Concert Band. The Marching
Band, composed of 56 members, played for all home football games and was host to the Galva Band
at the Galva game, traveled to Toulon and Walnut for two games, led the Homecoming Parade, led the
KewaneeFall Fesitval Parade and attended Western Illinois State College Homecoming Festival and entered
parade competition, receiving a Division I Rating of Superior.
The Pep Band, 26 members, under the direction of student conductors, played for numerous pep assemblies
and for all home games. The Pep Band is small in size, but is partially a select group, taken from the concert
band. The Pep Band plays all music at sight, having no special rehearsals.
The Concert Band is composed of 70 members. They gave their Annual Concert for the January PTA meeting,
with band members doing the conducting. Student conductors are Betty Dexter, Virginia Jenkin, Patricia
Coziahr, John Townsend, and Robert Kuzminski. The band played a special concert for the Rotary
Club at the Hotel Kewanee in February. The entire concert band entered the Illinois High School Association
Music Contests at Moline with high hopes of being allowed to advance to the State Final. Twelve
soloists and eight ensembles also took part in the contest. For the first time the Wethersfield Band was host
to the Blackhawk Conference Band Festival. Over 350-musicians from the Blackhawk schools participated.
The band gave its Fifth Annual Formal Concert in the 1st week of May. The Concert Band also furnished
music for the High School Commencement Exercises and performed for numerous Churches and Civic Organizations
throughout the year, with solos and ensembles.
