TRI LOCK
The design of child resistant packaging for
medicines has remained relatively unchanged for
the past thirty to forty years. These packages have
been successful in being child proof, however
they neglect the user, especially those with joint
problems. Due to the difficulties in opening these
types of containers, it is not uncommon for people
to decant the contents into unsafe non-child proof
packaging, a practice which currently causes
an estimated 10,000 cases/year of accidental
poisoning in the UK, mostly involving small children.
The elderly are also affected by this poor design,
those who have no one else to help them open their
medicines, can possibly miss vital doses of drugs,
which could help improve their quality of life.

My product is designed to be as easy to open as
possible while still being fully child proof. This is
accomplished by a three stage logic lock, that does
not require the user to be stronger or have better
co-ordination than a child. The lock is opened by
the simultaneous light pressing of the three buttons,
with the central button being the main locking
button, that must be pressed first or at the same
time as the other two, for the product to unlock. The
product is designed to be able to purchased by the
user who can then easily attach the product to the
majority of their current drug containers.
The thread on the base of the product is designed
to lock, and cannot be removed easily once
attached. The product can also be used by the
manufacturer who can take extra steps to make
sure the design is firmly locked onto the container.
This product helps people that have to regularly
take medication, to worry less about how hard
it may be to access their drugs or the need for
decanting the drugs into a different, non-child proof
container. Improving quality of life for the adult while
still assuring that any children are safe from being
able to gain access dangerous substances.
