Gudebrod Wire Holding Pins are specially designed for harness 

work. Pins are made from case-hardened blued steel, resist 

bending, and can be used over and over again. Each pin is 

precision pointed for easy insertion into the harness board. 

Rounded heads prevent wire damage and injury to hands and 

skin. Gude-Pins are available in seven sizes ranging from 1.18 

inches (30mm) to 4.0 inches (10.2mm) in length, and in various 

diameters - letter coded from (the smallest) A thru (the Largest)

There are several variables to consider when selecting a lacing 

tape for a particular end use. These include Type (raw material 

from which the product is fabricated), Size (dimensions), Finish 

(chemical treatment applied to the tape or cord), Form (flat tape 

or round cord), Tensile strength, and Specification requirements. 

Braided flat lacing tapes account for the majority of products sold 

by Gudebrod for wire harness applications. The driving 

specification is CID (commercial item description) [A-A-52080 

through A-A-52084], formerly MIL-T-43435, Tape, Lacing, and 

Tying; many corporate specifications parallel this document as 

well. To comply with the ordering requirements of their 

Specification, TYPE, SIZE and FINISH must be defined, 

COLOR, if not mentioned, is presumed to be "Natural," the color 

of the base fiber in its as-supplied state. (Most of our braided 

lacing tapes are available in natural or black from stock; some 

are available in other colors for an additional charge. Consult 

appropriate Data Page for Further information.) 

Fiber Type

made from five basic fiber types. Consideration of their 

properties as they relate to the end use application will help in 

defining the proper selection. 

52080 Polyamide [NYLON] - Type I. Nylon was the first material 

from which lacing tapes were braided. A general-purpose fiber, 

it is still widely used as a raw material for many applications. Its 

temperature rating is the lowest of the products we offer. 

52081 Polyester [DACRON] - Type II. Polyester has replaced 

Nylon in many applications because of its superior know-tying 

properties and higher temperature rating. It is available with 

more finishes than any other type we sell, many of which were 

developed for sophisticated aerospace (NASA) applications. 

Some polyester tapes are available as "Pre-Shrunk," a process 

which reduces longitudinal shrinkage of the end product when 

exposed to elevated temperatures. 

52082 Tetrafluorocarbon [TEFLON] - Type III. Teflon tapes 

have high heat resistance, and good resistance to many 

common fluids and solvents. Common uses include height 

temperature areas around aircraft engines. Teflon tapes may 

also be "pre-shrunk." These are the most expensive tapes, due 

to the very high cost of the raw yarn. 

52083 Glass - Type IV. Fiberglass tapes are made from 

continuous filament Electrical grade (E-glass) glass. As a raw 

material, fiberglass withstands extremely high temperatures (it 

melts at 2100F); it also has very low elongation. Fiber to fiber 

abrasion is minimized by using yarn that has been pre-treated 

with Teflon. 

52084 Polyamide, Heat Resistant [NOMEX] - Type V. Nomex 

fibers are excellent for use in high temperature areas, in that 

they do no burn or support combustion. In addition, they are 

highly resistant to common fuels and lubricants, and as such are 

widely used in critical aircraft harness applications. Gudebrod's 

Nomex lacing tapes are provided with a contrasting (olive drab) 

tracer strand for ready identification. 



Size 

The physical dimensions of a lacing tape, coupled with the 

properties of the fiber, are variables that affect the strength of 

finished lacing tapes. In general, larger wire bundles are laced 

or tied with stronger (tensile strength) products. On occasion, 

space limitations dictate what size product can be used. 

A-A-52080-52084 specifies dimensional requirements and 

tolerances for the various tapes. In addition, Gudebrod offers 

several 'standard" products whose dimensions are not covered 

in the military specification. Consult the appropriate Data Page 

for specific details In addition, we regularly manufacture 

"custom" constructions to meet unique application's 

requirements. 

Form (Braided Flat Tape, Round Cord/Cordage) 

Wire harnesses can be tied (bundled) using a variety of 

products. In Gudebrod's experience, virtually every critical 

aircraft/aerospace application specifies braided flat lacing tape. 

Flat tapes tend to hold their knots better, take up less space, and 

distribute the forces generated in lacing over a broader surface 

area. Our products have passed extensive vibration testing, and 

have been shown to exceed the requirements of the most 

demanding application. Where reliability and long-term harness 

integrity are paramount, a flat braided tape is the product of 

choice. 

To meet less rigorous applications, Gudebrod also offers twisted 

and braided round cords. These are generally less expensive, 

and as such may be appropriate for industrial and commercial 

harnesses. 



Finish 

Gudebrod has pioneered the development of lacing tapes to 

satisfy the requirements of the military Specification as well as 

demanding customer applications. In general, finishes are 

applied to enhance certain properties, or provide additional 

features. For consistency with the wording or the CID, finishes 

are listed alphabetically. 

Note: Not all finishes are available on all products. 

Finish A [No Finish] - Gudebrod Finish U. When Finish A is 

specified, the product supplied is "as-braided"; no subsequent 

processing is required. In general, tapes without a finish added 

are relatively poor for knot tying and knot retention, and 

evidence a degree of end fray when cut. 

Finish B [Wax Impregnated] - Gudebrod Finish W. A 

microcrystalline wax, with good fungicidal properties, is used. 

Wax enhances the tape's performance, and has become an 

industry "standard." Allowable wax content is 15% to 32% by 

weight' with some limitations, the amount of wax applied can be 

varied toward the high or low end of the tolerance. 

Finish C [Synthetic Rubber] - Gudebrod has several finishes 

that meet this specification, as detailed below. Synthetic rubber 

finishes provide the best knot tying characteristics. Rubber 

content can range from 7% to 17%. 

Gudebrod Finish H - Standard synthetic rubber finish. Good for 

knot retention. 

Gudebrod Finish Z - A flame-retarded synthetic rubber. 

Self-extinguishing. 



Gudebrod Finish PTH - A low-outgassing synthetic rubber 

developed by NASA space requirements. Available on Type II 

(polyester) products only. 

Finish D [Teflon] - Gudebrod Finish T. (Available on Type IV, 

Glass tape only.) Teflon finish reduces fiber to fiber abrasion. 

Tapes with this finish have relatively poor knot slip resistance. 

Finish content ranges from 10% to 30%. 

Finish E [Vinyl] - Gudebrod Finish R. Vinyl chloride or vinyl 

chloride acetate copolymer finish provides good resistance to 

many aviation fluids, but knot characteristics are only fair. Finish 

content ranges from 15% to 30%. 

Finish F [Silicone Resin] - Gudebrod Finish S. Silicone resin 

finish provides good knot retention properties. Finish content 

ranges from 7% to 17%. 

Finish G [Nylon] - Gudebrod Finish B/G. (Available on Type I, 

Nylon (B), and Type V, Nomex (G) tapes only.) Liquid nylon 

finish provides good resistance to commonly encountered fluids 

and hydrocarbon fuels. Nylon finish tends to stiffen the tape, and 

knot characteristics are generally poor. Finish content ranges 

from 4% to 14%.

Description: Twisted Polyester yarns saturated with a flame 

retardant finish to provide self-extinguishing characteristics when 

subjected to open flame or elevated temperatures.

1. Color Preserver (#811) 

This clear quick drying and 

non-blushing color preserver assures 

complete penetration on all types of 

thread wraps. Fast drying, requiring 

20 minutes between coatings, use this 

color preserver in conjunction with 

Gudebrod's one part regular or high 

build, or two part regular or high build 

rod finish. After applying each coat 

remove excess Color Preserver using 

a brush. Convenient water clean-up. 

2. Rod Varnish (#822) 

This self leveling varnish is especially 

designed to impart a deep lustrous 

professional finish to fly rods and light 

weight spinning rods. This finish will 

match original varnishes of older rods, 

thus the perfect finish for old rod 

restoration. Rod varnish gives a satin 

finish, and remains extremely flexible 

and resistant to shock, cracking, and 

scuffing. Convenient water clean-up. 

3. Liquid Rod Cement (#833) 

New waterbase liquid rod cement is 

100% waterproof. Ideal for bonding 

rod component parts of cork, rubber 

hypolon, metal, wood to fiberglass, 

and graphite blanks. Unexcelled for 

repair of sports and outdoor 

equipment where cold setting is

This no mix rod finish features ultra 

fast set-up time, requiring less than 15 

minutes turning on rod dryer. Coating 

dries crystal clear in one hour. 

Convenient water clean-up. 

5. Two Part High Build Rod Finish 

(#843) 

Epoxy Rod Coating is a new High 

Build Two Part Polymer with built in 

Ultraviolet protection. High build rod 

finish is non-yellowing and remains 

flexible and crystal clear after long 

hours of direct sunlight. New epoxy 

requires just 1 coat for thick build and 

dries to a luxurious finish in three to 

four hours. Clean-Up: Use standard 

nail polish remover. 

6. Two Part Regular Build Rod 

Finish (#850) 

A two part epoxy with a super strong 

low build finish, excellent for rods with 

high flexibility. Easy to mix 1:1 ration 

dries to a high gloss finish in three to 

four hours. Non-yellowing. Repeat 

coats for necessary build up. 

Clean-Up: Use standard nail polish 

remover. 

7. Stick Ferrule Cement (#444) 

The finest grade of plastic cement in 

stick form for installing tip-tops, and 

ferrules to all types of rods, as well as 

assembly of arrow components.
