THE INTENDED ACTIVITY AND OUTPUTS ESTABLISHED BY THE<br />

NORFOLK - DUN LAOGHAIRE COMENIUS PARTNERSHIP 2010-12<br />

Evidence from reports furnished for <strong>the</strong> evaluation<br />

In <strong>the</strong> beginning of <strong>the</strong> current year, <strong>the</strong> Comenius Regio (EU) Project (21st October 2010)<br />

was envisaged as offering:<br />

OUTPUTS: Training and Support through:<br />

• The introduction of restorative practices in school communit<strong>ie</strong>s, in partnership with Norfolk schools;<br />

• School communit<strong>ie</strong>s as a whole, to enable <strong>the</strong> parents to bring issues to <strong>the</strong> fore and reflect on <strong>the</strong>ir response to<br />

conflict building on a base of a number of existing parent groups already in existence;<br />

• Development of Post Primary as well as primary level initiatives<br />

Teacher training:<br />

• School-based courses on school planning days and summer courses.<br />

• Consideration given to offering a longer course at a later date.<br />

• Guidance counsellors and Home School teachers support.<br />

Interagency training involving youth agenc<strong>ie</strong>s, community groups and gardai.<br />

Resources<br />

It was intended to create short video resources.<br />

The ‘virtues’ programme (a New Zealand Programme) in one partner school might be useful to promote to o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

schools.<br />

Peer mediation training was also being offered by Norfolk.<br />

Parental training was developed in a specific and very valuable course element.<br />

OUTCOMES:<br />

The emergence of <strong>the</strong> partnership<br />

A restorative practices network was solidif<strong>ie</strong>d and sustained.<br />

There were developments in some very positive Garda contact. Parental confidence in <strong>the</strong> Garda had<br />

developed noticeably.<br />

The levels of reach in terms of <strong>the</strong> changes sought in:<br />

• School Practice<br />

• School Culture<br />

• Parental Engagement<br />

• Wider Civic interest<br />

• Wider Inter professional Engagements<br />

Practitioner visits were established with an exchange to Norfolk in December.<br />
