5.0 FIRE SERVICES<br />

5.1 All fire services shall conform to the Ontario Building Code and National Fire Protection<br />

Act.<br />

5.2 The fire service requirements shall be the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the Developer/Owner.<br />

Information may be obtained from the Insurance Underwriters, the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barrie</strong> Building<br />

Services Department and the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barrie</strong> Fire Department.<br />

5.3 Where fire services are not metered, the Developer/Owner shall pay to the <strong>City</strong> a fixed<br />

annual service charge. Refer to Section J.<br />

5.4 The <strong>City</strong> may test the fire water service system from time to time to determine the loss <strong>of</strong><br />

water through system leakage or other causes. If as a result <strong>of</strong> the testing, the <strong>City</strong> believes<br />

that water has been used from the said system for other than fire protection purposes, the<br />

<strong>City</strong> may require that the fire water service system be metered and the Developer/Owner<br />

shall comply forthwith.<br />

5.5 For Fire Protection charges refer to Section J.<br />

5.6 The Owner shall paint private hydrants “Fire Hydrant Red”.<br />

5.7 If a fire hydrant is installed on the fire service, a valve and box is required on the service<br />

before it enters the building.<br />

5.8 A building shall be within 90 metres <strong>of</strong> a fire hydrant.<br />

5.9 All siamese connections shall be within 45 metres <strong>of</strong> a fire hydrant.<br />

5.10 An anchor tee and valve shall be installed for all fire hydrants and all fire hydrants shall be<br />

located a minimum <strong>of</strong> 0.7 metres from the valve.<br />

5.11 Private fire hydrants or other fire water service outlets shall not be operated except in the<br />

case <strong>of</strong> fire for fire protection purposes, unless special permission <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> has been<br />

obtained.<br />

5.12 All hydrants shall be maintained as per fire code/insurance requirements.<br />

6.0 TESTING PROCEDURE<br />

6.1 Testing <strong>of</strong> General Service domestic services and fire services shall conform to the<br />

following sequence: initial tie-in, remove the swabs/charge the watermain, pressure test,<br />

chlorinate, flush the system and take a water sample. The service will not be turned on<br />

until a sample is approved.
