44 kIdS FOrCE ChILdCArE CENTrE OPENS AT rAAF dArWIN SENaTOR Trish Crossin represented the Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP, at the opening of the Kids Force Childcare Centre at RAAF Darwin on Thursday 29 March 2012. The new Defence childcare centre opened its doors in early January 2012 in Billeroy Road, Winnellie, providing welcome access to quality early childhood education and care for local Defence families and the wider Darwin community. The 60-place centre, called Kids Force, is one of 21 childcare services around australia administered by the Defence Community Organisation (DCO). 'Defence is committed to providing local, community-based solutions for families looking for quality early childhood education and care,' explains Michael Callan, Director General of the Defence Community Organisation. 'Defence is committed to providing local, communitybased solutions for families looking for quality early childhood education and care' 'Mobile Defence families often struggle to obtain childcare on posting to a new location and being able to access Defence Centres can help alleviate some of the angst associated with a move. 'Defence recognises the importance of building collaborative relationships and support networks within local communities. While Defence childcare centres give priority of access to ADF families, when they have vacancies they welcome enrolments from the wider community. The new centre at Winnellie will add to the capacity of the current Defence Childcare Service operating at Palmerston.
