provides a great opportunity to review a new bestseller
from our selection of equestrian books.

by Felix Francis
Writing solo for the first time,
Felix Francis continues his father's
bestselling legacy with another edgeof-your-seat
read. Nicholas Foxton, a
former jockey who suffered a careerending
injury, is out for a day at the
Grand National races when his friend
and co-worker Herb Kovak is shot at point blank range.
With the press speculating links to gangland crime and a
crumpled note containing a threatening message found
in the dead man’s coat, Nick begins to doubt how well he
really knew his friend.
This is definitely in the mould of a typical Dick Francis
book. While he doesn't quite have the exact flavour of
writing as his father, Felix Francis is nevertheless filling
his father's shoes quite nicely.
This one is a book club favourite – put it on your list.
The Other Hand
by Chris Cleave
For people who like to be swept
away with a book from the very
first sentence this book is a must.
It is very hard to put down and
very relevant to the issues of today.
A refugee girl fleeing Nigeria from
the most vile experiences and an English woman share
a past. The reader is given hints at first that the
experience was brief but clearly seared in the memories
of both women. The unravelling is done slowly and
the story is told by both women. You cannot help but
be moved by both of them. This story gives a real
insight into the plight of the refugee and a glimpse into
detention within Britain.
Beautifully written with a great balance between detail
and leading the reader on to find out the truth behind
different events. An extremely moving story which will
stay with the reader for a long time.

Holiday Program
Another exciting holiday program coming up for school
children to enjoy during the long dry season break.
We are going to create fun activities from award winning
children’s author and illustrator Alison Lester's book Are
We There Yet?, which tells the story of her family's journey
around Australia in a camper van. In particular, we are making
some crazy hats including the watermelon hat from the book.
Also, there’s a real treat with the Amazing Drumming
Monkeys performing at Casuarina Library Courtyard at
10:30am on Saturday 14 July and again at Karama Library at
10:00am on Thursday 19 July.
