All dates refer to 2008 unless otherwise noted. Application Deadlines Feb. 6 is the deadline to apply for oryx draw licenses, bear WMA permits, population management hunts, and turkey draw permits. April 9 is the deadline to apply for public deer permits, and elk, pronghorn antelope, ibex, javelina, and bighorn sheep draw licenses. Application Fees The application fee for all draw hunt applications is now $8. Resident Junior/Senior Deer License A reduced-fee Junior/Senior Deer License has been created. This license costs $27. Hunters must remember they still need a public land deer permit available only through the draw or a private land deer permit available through license vendors. Hunters must have written permission from a private landowner if hunting private land. Resident Junior/Senior Small Game/Fishing License A reduced-fee Junior/Senior Small Game/Fishing License has been created. This combination license costs $16. Resident Small Game/Fishing License A resident Small Game/Fishing License has been created. This combination license costs $33. Governor’s Enhancement Authorizations The Governor may receive up to 12 big game authorizations and up to 12 game bird or trophy fish authorizations for auction. All proceeds go toward fish and wildlife conservation projects in New Mexico. Visit the Department’s Web site for more information about these auctions. “Grand Slam” Authorization Packages Two big game authorization packages will be auctioned. Each package will consist of 5 authorizations, one for each of the following species: 1 deer, 1 elk, 1 ibex, 1 oryx and 1 pronghorn. All proceeds will go toward big game habitat enhancement, conservation, and protection projects in New Mexico. Visit the Department’s Web site for more information about these auctions. Gould’s Turkey Enhancement Permits Two Gould’s turkey enhancement permits may be made available via auction and/or raffle. Visit the Department’s Web site for more information about this exciting opportunity. Gov. Bill Richardson, an avid sportsman himself, encourages all hunters to be safe and hunt ethically during the upcoming season.
