76 Bluelingy’s memory Myself and my brother was amongst the first 6 at Main Road queuing for tickets from 3 am (God knows why as we was season ticket holders and guaranteed tickets anyway) behind us was a family of two teenage girls and their Mother! The queue got larger and longer as the night went on and by daybreak I was amazed at how many people was actually queuing. We had chatted with the people around us all night, particular to the girls who was right behind us, and time went quite quickly. The mrs called around 6.30 and offered to bring over some breakfast and a brew, which was greatly received, then. around 7ish before the breakfast arrived the club opened the Kippax gates and walked us around, through the concourse at the back of the North stand to a door at the end which came out next to the ticket office, we was kept their inside, until the ticket office opened. come 9 o'clock the door opened and we walked out threw a fenced of area, to the ticket office, it was a glorious morning, sun was shining and as the eyes adjusted to the sun I was amazed at how many people was in that
queue, (and I remember the 81 Cup final queue which was quite big) the queue stretch from the ticket office through the North stand to the Kippax, back around the outside of the North stand, past the ticket office, past the Main stand and as far as I could see disappeared around the Platt lane corner. The day itself was amazing, the coach down to <strong>Wembley</strong> from Chorlted Street. The game, The equaliser, The Penalties, the drive past the Hotel wear the players was outside waving at the fans popping bottles of Champaign. 7 years later I'm at Tameside hospital after my wife giving birth to our one and only. I'm sat outside the word with a friend, two of the girls we had queued up with them earlier 7 years came to the waiting area, outside the ward, I recognised them, and we started chatting, the 3rd girl who was queuing with us them 7 years before was also in the ward after giving birth the same day! The nurse came to the door and said would the people visiting mrs ******** like to come in, now my family name is not a smith or evens, and not very common at all, so when we all stood up, I was like where you going?? It became clear that we shared the same family name as well... small world but I wouldn't like to paint it!! 77
