Dear Alumni, Parents, and Friends,
For many, springtime brings glimpses of hope, joy, and new beginnings. While
our temperamental New England winter was not particularly icy or cold, we
nevertheless emerge from a monochrome world—where nature’s grayscales
slowly burst into color. Forsythia’s gold, crocus’ purple, tulips’ pink, and fields
of green make their presence known. So it is with us. In what ways will we
make ourselves known this season? What impressions will we stir in the world
around us, and how will we make a difference?
In this issue, we have a feature on our gifted Mock Trial team. These intelligent, debate-savvy students must
think quickly on their feet and assertively make their voices heard. In our recent production of Godspell, our
talented cast modeled the life and lessons of Jesus’ teaching, as He gently made His voice known. What will
be your message this season to those around you? How will you make your voice heard?
We are pleased to announce the addition of five talented new members of our Board of Trustees in this
issue. They join a group of dedicated professionals who are tasked with the challenge of overseeing the
acquisition of the school’s property. We, of course, continue our commitment to offer every student the
best Catholic college-preparatory education possible, and continually seek your prayers and support for
our success and vision.
In addition, after completing a vigorous regional search among Catholic and Independent School advancement
professionals throughout New England, Derek Collamati, formerly of St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket,
Rhode Island, began serving as our Director of Advancement on March 1, 2007. Derek brings a wealth of
experience and energy to this position and we are very pleased to welcome him to the Spellman Family.
Building upon the legacy of accomplishment achieved by Maryellen during her tenure, he will be a catalyst
for engaging our loyal alumni, parents, and friends more actively in the life of Cardinal Spellman High
School as we quickly approach our 50 th Anniversary during the 2008-2009 academic year. While he will have
plenty to keep him busy, Derek has the good fortune of joining a highly dedicated Advancement Team who
care passionately about the mission and future of Cardinal Spellman High School!
May you and your families be inspired by the blessings of springtime around you, and be encouraged to
embrace life’s changes and dreams as you make your own God-given talents known.
Please remember that you are always welcome to visit us at Spellman. We look forward to greeting our
alums as well as our Spellman parents and friends.
