visible), by the elongate, club-shaped antennal scape, four- or five-segmented<br />
funicle, and subsolid, flattened club with sutures indicated only by lateral<br />
constrictions and sometimes by a few setae, and by the anteromedially asperat e<br />
pronotum.<br />
8. Phloeotrypetus palauensis Wood , n. sp. (fig. 5, a, b) .<br />
Female: Length 1.25 mm., 2.6 times as long as wide ; body color brown.<br />
Fron s feebly, rath er broadl y concave, with epistomal mar gin weakly raised ; surface<br />
indistinctl y reticulate, and with rather fine, moderately abundant punctures ; vestiture fine,<br />
much longer above, dir ected orad . Eye entire, large, and coarsel y faceted. Antennae very<br />
similar to species of L iparthrusn; scape rather long and slender; funicle shorter and foursegmented;<br />
club a littl e longer than scape, shining, with sutures obscur ely indicated by<br />
lateral constrictions and a few setae.<br />

Prono tum as long as wide ; sides almost straight and subparallel on basal half, moderately<br />
rounded in front, ant erior mar gin armed by a row of about six small, scarcely<br />
perceptible teeth; surface rather finely and closely asperate except at sides, asperitie s<br />
smaller and sparse on posterior half , asperate area reticulate , lateral ar eas smooth and<br />
shining, with few minute punctures; vestiture short, spar se, hairlike.<br />
Elytra 1.7 times as long as wide, 1.9 times as long as pr onotum ; elytral bases elevat ed<br />
and armed laterally to striae 4 by a single continuous row of coar se marginal crenulation s,<br />
scutellum not visible ; striae 1 weakly, other s imperc eptibly impressed, punctures small<br />
and rather deep; inter striae as wide as str iae, each with a row of granulate setiferous punctures<br />
, puncture s about two-thirds as numerous on disc as stri al puncture s. Declivity moderately<br />
steep, weakly convex ; more coarsely and closely granulate than on disc. Vestiture<br />
consisting of uniser iate rows of fine, short , recumbent strial hair , and uniseriate rows of<br />
erect, moderately long, inter strial bri stles. Mar gins of metepimeron and metepistemum<br />
bearing a row of small scales.<br />
