Teacher Education (ITE) and teachers’<br />

Cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g Professional Development<br />

(CPD) was the first output of the project<br />

and resulted <strong>in</strong> the book European<br />

Teachers Towards a Knowledge Society,<br />

written by the uTeacher partnership <strong>in</strong><br />

close collaboration with the n<strong>in</strong>eteen<br />

National Investigators.<br />

Focus<strong>in</strong>g on the European situation<br />

regard<strong>in</strong>g the teacher competencies <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>ICT</strong> <strong>for</strong> Education that emerge from<br />

teacher tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g processes, the book<br />

provides a view of the differences<br />

between national practices.<br />

Specifically, the book aims to:<br />

• provide <strong>in</strong>sight <strong>in</strong>to teacher<br />

competencies <strong>in</strong> <strong>ICT</strong> <strong>for</strong> Education<br />

across Europe. This represents a<br />

start<strong>in</strong>g po<strong>in</strong>t <strong>for</strong> def<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a shared<br />

framework <strong>for</strong> teachers’ <strong>professional</strong><br />

development, start<strong>in</strong>g from the present<br />

situation;<br />

• detect the ma<strong>in</strong> trends;<br />

• learn from one another;<br />

• share <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g ideas and<br />

approaches;<br />

• avoid “re<strong>in</strong>vent<strong>in</strong>g the wheel”.<br />
