BERATI COUNTY<br />

Ethnographic Museum of Berat is found in<br />

a traditional house, which belongs to the<br />

end of XVIII century. The house of Xhokaxhi<br />

family is composed with two floors, using<br />

as a construction material the stone for<br />

the first floor and the wood for the second<br />

one. The most attraction part of the house<br />

is the “garret”, which is noted for its high<br />

architectural values. The house is a real<br />

complex indeed where all the elements<br />

such as the garden, the museum complex<br />

of the other houses around are a witness<br />

of a rich ethnographic culture. In interior<br />

setting of the museum there are displayed<br />

1.000 objects, which belong to the area of<br />

Berat region. The first floor is organized as a medieval<br />

bazaar with many objects and crafts. What<br />

catch your eyes are the clothes of both man<br />

and women with filigree. Other objects<br />

are the different items of decoration,<br />

copper works etc. Inside the first floor there<br />

are displayed the equipment of olive oil<br />

processing, the equipment of other drinks,<br />

the pottery and smithy. In the second floor<br />

the most interesting part is the “garret” and<br />

also the living amenities equipped with<br />

many ethnographic objects and values. In<br />

one of this amenities is the “guest room”<br />

where is a separate part where the women<br />

used to stay. Other objects are the chimney,<br />

the sofas round the room, one hanging<br />

gun and a flag 100 years old. Next to the<br />

guest room is the kitchen equipped with<br />

all cooking tools. In the second floor there<br />

are also two other rooms, which are “the<br />

country room” and “loom room“.<br />

These two room depict the ambience of<br />

working and living aspects. In the “loom<br />

room” you may see all the tools for wool,<br />

cotton processing. There are also displayed<br />

the carpets and rugs.<br />
