3. SITE DESCRIPTION:<br />
The <strong>for</strong>mer <strong>San</strong> <strong>Francisco</strong> <strong>Nike</strong> <strong>Battery</strong> <strong>31</strong> ( <strong>Nike</strong> <strong>Battery</strong> SF-<strong>31</strong>) includes two parcels totaling<br />
135.182 acres and is located east of <strong>San</strong> Leandro near Lake Chabot in Alameda County,<br />
Cali<strong>for</strong>nia. <strong>Nike</strong> <strong>Battery</strong> SF-<strong>31</strong> consisted of three components: a launch area (SF-<strong>31</strong>L), an<br />
administrative area (SF-<strong>31</strong>A), and an integrated fire control area (SF-<strong>31</strong>C). SF-<strong>31</strong>A and SF-<strong>31</strong>L<br />
are located adjacent to one another (SF-<strong>31</strong>A/L), and their coordinates are 37º43’15” North and<br />
122º5’49” West (Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 10, 579586 East and 4175225<br />
North). The coordinates of <strong>Nike</strong> <strong>Battery</strong> SF-<strong>31</strong>C are 37º43’25” North and 122º7’9” West (UTM<br />
Zone 10, 577625 East and 4175515 North). Former <strong>Nike</strong> <strong>Battery</strong> SF-<strong>31</strong>A/L is located in the <strong>San</strong><br />
Leandro Hills that <strong>for</strong>m the southeastern boundary of Lake Chabot, with a high point of 574 feet<br />
above mean sea level (msl). <strong>Nike</strong> <strong>Battery</strong> SF-<strong>31</strong>C is located on Fairmont Ridge, which <strong>for</strong>ms the<br />
western boundary of Lake Chabot, with the highest point being 813 feet above mean sea level.<br />
<strong>Nike</strong> <strong>Battery</strong> SF-<strong>31</strong>A and SF-<strong>31</strong>L are now part of the Lake Chabot Regional Park under the<br />
control of the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD). <strong>Nike</strong> <strong>Battery</strong> SF-<strong>31</strong>C is owned by the<br />
Alameda County General Services Agency and used as a remote radio communications site.
