as Patron of the Queensland Symphony
orchestra, I am delighted to welcome a new
season of performances, designed, with flair
and imagination, to impress and please all who
have the opportunity to attend them.
In 2012 the Queensland Symphony orchestra
will present, from its new base at South Bank,
a season that offers lovers of classical music
both great variety and great enjoyment. Under
the sensitive direction of Maestro Johannes
Fritzsch and a number of distinguished guest
conductors, the orchestra will showcase
once again the highest standards of technical
excellence and musicianship, across a rich
program that traverses centuries of music and
a panoply of musical styles and genres.
The program includes well known works - "old
friends" that we look forward to meeting again
and hearing with fresh ears - and others less
well known, less often performed, whose
acquaintance we may be keen to make. There
will be wonderful collaborations, concerts
built around intriguing themes, a series of
concerts in regional Queensland, and music for
children of all ages. above all, the program is
a celebration of marvellous music and of our
good fortune in having an orchestra of such
distinction that Queensland and Queenslanders
can claim proudly as our own. I look forward to
sharing this celebration and the pleasures of the
2012 Season with you all.

Welcome to the 2012 Season for the
Queensland Symphony orchestra. What a year
it promises to be as the orchestra celebrates
its 65th year of creating and sharing beautiful
music with audiences across the state.
This season also marks another significant
milestone for the orchestra as it makes its
long-anticipated move into its new home
in the heart of the arts and cultural precinct
at South Bank.
With exciting international collaborations,
comprehensive regional tours and a dynamic
subscription season, the Queensland Symphony
orchestra’s 2012 Season will be a vibrant and
energetic experience for all music lovers.
I would like to congratulate the Chief
Conductor Johannes Fritzsch and the 88
talented orchestra musicians on bringing worldclass
music to Queensland and thank them for
the ongoing commitment to sharing their gift
with audiences all over the state.
The Queensland Government is a proud
supporter of the Queensland Symphony
orchestra and shares a goal of touching the
hearts and minds of Queenslanders through the
power of music.

In 2012, the Queensland Symphony orchestra
will embark on an exciting new journey as we
explore the entertainment and creative possibilities
presented at our new home in the South Bank arts
precinct. We look forward to sharing this with you.
This season, the Queensland Symphony orchestra
will present world class performances that will
excite our audiences and engage our communities
across the State under the continuing dynamic
leadership of our Chief Conductor Johannes
Fritzsch. This is a diverse and enlightened program
providing the opportunity for our musicians to
work in close collaboration with many distinguished
guest artists and conductors. our artistic vibrancy
and diversity is at the core of our success.
Diversity with balance takes courage. In 2012
we present this in our Gala and 20/21 Series and
our extensive Regional Concert Series reaches
many of our wide spread communities providing
the live experience of our world class Queensland
Symphony orchestra.
We will expand our engagement in 2012 with
young people through our numerous education
programs, concerts and workshops to inspire their
appreciation of and participation in music, as well
as providing learning and development
opportunities for aspiring young musicians. our
talented musicians are recognised leaders in our
education engagements.
We seek your strong advocacy and support as we
excite and entertain you with our 2012 program.

orchestra will strive to create the most
memorable performances with ‘new concepts,
in new places’. as we move to the heart of
South Bank’s cultural precinct, we anticipate
the rise of endless opportunities to engage with
our Queensland community. The new building
will enable us to host a range of community
events and unique concerts with the addition
of our Baroque and Concerti series in 2012.

world-class musicians will perform classical and
