An erect, camphor-scented, variable herb or<br />

woody shrub, up to 2 m tall.<br />

Quadrangular and s<strong>of</strong>ty pubescent.<br />

Common Name : <strong>Indian</strong> catmint<br />

<strong>Family</strong> : Lamiaceae<br />

Thick, broadly ovate, 4-10 cm long and 2-6 cm<br />

wide, base rounded or subcordate, apex acute,<br />

margins crenate-serrate, hairy to s<strong>of</strong>ty<br />

pubescent on both sides; petioles 1-7.5 cm long.<br />

Flowers borne in dense whorls in leaf axils<br />

below and in dense, spiked inflorescences, 8-32<br />

cm long above; light purple or dark red with a<br />

deep blue lower lip.<br />

Nutlets 2.5 mm long, broadly ovoid with<br />

rounded ends, smooth, polished, turning black<br />

when ripe.<br />
