A rambling perennial grass.
Culm up to 3 m long, rooting from the lower
nodes, glabrous, much branched in upper part,
branches flexuous.
Leaf-blades are flat, 5-25 cm long, 2-10 mm
wide, cut-off at the tip.
Inflorescence a leafy panicle, solitary, simple
raceme or spike, each enclosed in a spathe.
Spikelets in trios, one sessile, two pedicelled.
