<strong>Program</strong> Mission<br />
To thoroughly educate Physician Assistants (PA) in<br />
<strong>the</strong> disease processes of <strong>the</strong> Cardiothoracic<br />
Surgical patient and to instruct <strong>the</strong> PA resident in<br />
<strong>the</strong> technical skills and clinical acumen involved in<br />
<strong>the</strong> care of <strong>the</strong>ir patients.<br />
<strong>Program</strong> Vision<br />
To become nationally recognized as <strong>the</strong><br />
preeminent PA post-graduate training program in<br />
Cardiothoracic Surgery and to set <strong>the</strong> educational<br />
standards by which similar programs are based.<br />
Description of <strong>Program</strong><br />
The <strong>Emory</strong> PA Post-Graduate Cardiothoracic<br />
Surgical Residency program, in affiliation with<br />
<strong>Emory</strong> <strong>University</strong> PA <strong>Program</strong>, is a comprehensive<br />
and intensive 1-year, certificate-granting program<br />
offering both a clinical and a web-based didactic<br />
educational curriculum in Cardiothoracic Surgery.<br />
The program accepts two PA residents per year<br />
and is designed to challenge <strong>the</strong> residents and<br />
provide for an ideal environment in which to learn<br />
<strong>the</strong> advanced skills and clinical acumen associated<br />
with <strong>the</strong> care of <strong>the</strong> Cardiothoracic Surgical<br />
patient. The residents will complete multiple<br />
rotations through 3 <strong>Emory</strong> hospitals with available<br />
electives in Critical Care, Aortic Surgery, Pediatric<br />
Cardiothoracic Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and<br />
Heart & Lung Transplant.<br />
Admission Requirements<br />
1. Applicants must be graduates of an ARC-PA<br />
accredited physician assistant program with a<br />
minimum of a 3.2 overall GPA<br />
2. Applicants must obtain Georgia licensure upon<br />
acceptance into <strong>the</strong> program and undergo a preemployment<br />
background check.<br />
3. Applicants must be NCCPA eligible or certified.<br />
New graduates accepted into <strong>the</strong> program are<br />
required to pass <strong>the</strong> NCCPA certification<br />
examination prior to matriculation, or shortly<br />
<strong>the</strong>reafter.<br />
4. Applicants must hold current Basic Life Support<br />
(BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)<br />
certification.<br />
5. Must demonstrate a sincere and well articulated<br />
desire to enter Cardiothoracic Surgery.<br />
