toes practically unwebbed at base; two metatarsal tubercles, inner<br />

rather elongate and prominent; the tibiotarsal articulation of the<br />

adpressed hind limb reaches to the shoulder (between the shoulder and<br />

tympanum in the paratypes); smooth above; sides granular; smooth<br />

below except for sides of belly.<br />

"Coloration in alcohol.—Very dark brown, almost black, above;<br />

below dark brown, but considerably lighter than the dorsal coloration,<br />

densely covered with irregularly shaped white spots; medially the<br />

spots tend to be elongate and to arrange themselves to form a broken<br />

line starting on the under side of the lower jaw and extending almost<br />

to the hindleg.<br />

"In the paratypes the lower side of the imder jaw (except in no.<br />

19,863) is whitish, marked more or less with the brown of the ventral<br />

ground color; the ventral median line may or may not extend onto the<br />

head. Also the ventral spots in some paratypes tend to run together.<br />

The paratypes also show whitish on the hands and feet, and may also<br />

show patches of the same color under the femur and under the fore<br />

limbs. The smallest paratype, No. 19,863, shows but little evidence<br />

of the ventral median line. This median ventral line, which seems
