PETZL REQUIREMENTS
For sports enthusiasts, reliability and quality of equipment are essential. At Petzl, a manufacturer of PPE (personal
protective equipment), this preoccupation is supported throughout the product’s lifetime, from the research
phase to our after-sales service. At each stage of development and manufacturing, products undergo numerous
tests and inspections in the lab, in the field, and on the production line. During the R&D phase, the research
team works closely with Petzl's testing lab to guarantee optimal use with maximum safety for the user. The Petzl
lab tests the product components to validate our choices. In the end, all PPE products and headlamps are
individually inspected.
Our expertise
Petzl's activities require a mastery of very diverse materials (textiles, metals, plastics, electronics, etc.) as well as
specific technologies (fine plastic molding, injection molding, sewing, forging, LEDs, etc.). This expertise allows
us to design equipment that corresponds to technical use constraints, such as resistance to shock, wear,
extreme temperatures, etc.
Safety without compromise
At Petzl, the safety of the user is without compromise. With this goal in mind, Petzl products undergo
numerous tests at each step of their development and manufacturing: in the test lab, on the terrain,
through individual inspection, etc. If a risk to the safety of the user is discovered, Petzl puts everything in
place to correct the problem.
This policy led to two product recalls in spring 2011, the SCORPIO via ferrata lanyard and the selfbraking
GRIGRI 2 belay device (first production series). These actions were accompanied with corrective
measures and decisions to make our design and manufacturing processes even more reliable.
