WITH your handwork you could warm the
heart of a needy child!
Children, especially those less priviledged, is
a vulnerable section of our society and therefore
the Shoprite Checkers supermarket group
reaches out a hand of support to them. The
supermarket group, in association with Age in
Action, annually sponsors the Pretty Things for
Little Things project - a competition that urges
Shoprite and Checkers customers, especially
senior citizens, to put their creative skills to
work to make something for needy children.
Last year more than 12 000 toys and items of
clothing were entered and distributed across
the country to needy kids as early Christmas
presents! Anyone can take part in the project,
but only senior citizens over 60 who enter their
handiwork stand a chance of winning generous
cash vouchers that can be used at
Shoprite, Checkers or Checkers Hyper stores
nationwide. Entrants can make anything practical,
durable and safe that a child can wear or
play with. Articles can be made of any resources
available and can be entered into four
categories namely soft toys, blankets, clothing,
and other articles made from materials such as
wood, tin or wire. Three winners per category
will be selected in each province. The provincial
winners receive gift vouchers to the
value of R2500, R2000 and R1500 for 1st, 2nd
and 3rd place in that order, and also go through
to the final judging round in which three
national winners per category are chosen.
National winners receive vouchers to the value
of R6000, R4000 and R3000 for the top three
positions respectively. There is also a merit
prize for the person who enters the most items
nationally. The closing date for the competition
is 31 August 2009 and winners will be announced
during September 2009. Winners’
names will also be published in the December
edition of Ideas magazine.

Market counter in any Shoprite, Checkers or
Checkers Hyper store or from Age-in-Action

kantore van die PHALABORWA &
HOEDSPRUIT HERALD Dinsdag geskakel om
te hoor of die koerant enige inligting het en die
gerugte kan bevestig.
‘n Woordvoerder by Sasol se hoofkantoor was
nie bereid om die gerugte te ontken of te erken
nie. Die enigste reaksie was dat hulle geen
kommentaar in diè stadium kan lewer nie.
Die fabrieksbestuurder van Sasol Nitro op
Phalaborwa, Willem Jacobs, het egter
kategories gesê dat daar nog geen finale besluit
geneem is nie.
"Ons ondersoek tans alle moontlik scenarios
en die gevolge daarvan en eers dan sal ons ‘n
finale besluit neem," het Jacobs gesê.
Oor die moontlike tydperk vir wanneer so ‘n
besluit geneem sal word was sy reaksie dat dit
binne afsienbare tyd sal gebeur.
Hy het egter ‘n beroep op iwnoners gedoen om
nie onnodige gerugte te versprei nie en veral
nie gerugte wat hoegenaamd nie bevestig is
nie.
Dis ‘n bekende feit dat Sasol Nitro noustrop
trek, maar in die verlede is alle besluite oor die
toekoms van die maatskappy met groot
omsigtigheid en inagneming van alle faktore
geneem. Dit sal nou weer so wees.
Indien Sasol Nitro wel sou sluit sal dit ‘n
dramatiese uitwerking op die hele gemeenskap
hê en die een ding wat niemand nou nodig het
nie is dat ongegronde gerugte, selfs ook oor
PMC en Foskor, lukraak versprei word. Dis in
niemand se belang nie!

Geen beserings na ongeluk
‘n Sekuriteits voertuig het op die Mica pad so wat 2km buite Phalaborwa omgeslaan. Die voertuig het omgeslaan
en het na bewering ‘n paar keer getol voordat dit tot stilstand gekom het. Die nooddiens beamptes was vinnig op
die toneel en die twee insittendes is nie ernstig beseer nie. Volgens konstabel Magobo van die SAPD is die oorsaak
van die ongeluk nie bekend nie. Die saak word ondersoek.
Guilty for neglecting a child
A 21 year old woman from Majeje
village at Phalaborwa was found
guilty by Lulekani Magistrate Court
for neglecting a child.
Minah Thobela was fined R25 000
or twelve months imprisonment,
wholly suspended for two years.
Meanwhile, a 30 year old man,
Moraba Moses Darus from Bushbuckridge,
was found guilty by Na-
makgale Magistrate Court for theft.
Moraba was fined 12 months imprisonment,
half of which is suspended
for five years conditionally.

of the indigent registration process
which will commence from the June
6. Residents who qualify are requested
to register as indigents. The following
criteria apply if a household
wants to register as indigent:
If the gross monthly income of all
the members of the household does
not exceed R1 050 per month. If the
applicants’ gross monthly income of
all members of the household does
not exceed the joint pensions of two
old age pensioners at less than R2 100
a month. The person/applicant applying
on behalf of a household must
be 18 years of age and above.

Guardian angel
Some 25km from Phalaborwa on
the Mica road, you will find the
sigh-post ‘Grietjie’. Down this
road, towards the Olifants river,
you will come to a name plate
’CARE’. You’ll know that you have
entered baboon country by the
numbers surrounding your
vehicle.
When you’re driving a “
bakkie”, they will gladly hop on to
see if you have anything that resembles
food.
Suddenly massive shelters
loom, some the size of a house.
There are baboons everywhere -
some inside the shelters, some
outside. Then a little stone house
with lopsided roof. Here lives Rita
Miljo, the Guardian Angel of Baboons
everywhere.
Rita started CARE (Centre for
Animal Rehabilitation and Education)
in 1989 with a close
friend, Bobby, a female baboon
who she met in a military camp in
Otjiwarongo in 1980. CARE was
launched amidst bureaucratic
bungling, permit problems and
many lawmakers still viewing baboons
as problem animals.
Rita has spent her years re-
habilitating and releasing baboons
back into the wild successfully.
And she is still fighting
everyday to keep their dreams
afloat.
She released her first troop in
1994, north of Phalaborwa, to the
great astonishment of officials
who had regarded her concept as
madness. Today her program and
goals are the same as then and she
still loves the baboons like fami
l y.
Rita says in places there are still
plenty baboons, but not nearly the
same numbers as in the past. The
thing about vanishing species is
that the problem is realized too
late.
Rita runs the care centre purely
on donations. They receive food
and building supplies from
around the country.
But enough is never enough. If
anyone is looking to get involved
in this project, feel free to visit Rita
at the care centre.

Moocah’s long anticipated album

August 2009.
Moocha has not released an
album in more than 4 years. He
was releasing singles only in
Limpopo and Mpumalanga.”
"Jazz and R&B are the loves of
my hart,” Moocah said. Moocah
will be working with Kgaugelo
Yhala and Mxolisi Khoza, who
have worked with the likes of
Benjamin Dube, Keke and Mccoy
Morobato, to tighten his project.
Moocah, whose name will be
spelled Mocah as from now, has
four awards to his name.
With his new album that will be
distributed nationwide, and four
videos on TV, Mocah is set to win
the Samas and the KORAS next
year, to add to his Metro Fm award
and his three MLFM awards.

on June 13, Mocah will perform
for the SABC top dogs during the

Nuus uit die Rooiskool
Die volgende leerders van die Rooiskool is gekies as lid van die skool
se padpatrolie span: Cherise Moore, Jason de Jager, Michael Swart,
Louis de Beer.
Die Rooiskool kweek entrepreneurs. Die gr5 leerlinge by die Rooiskool
het 'n entrepeneursdag gehou. Dit was ‘n reuse sukses! Daar was baie
stalletjies en die beoordelaars moes kopkrap om die volgende wenners
te kies. Twee van die stalletjies het dan ook kompetisies aangebied en
die wenners aangekondig. Isabel Opperman het die gelukkige lootjie
by Juliana Croukamp se stalletjie gehad. Hier is die wenners: PJ Fraser,

Die Rooiskool leiers spog met nuwe hemde wat hulle Vrydae sal dra.

Klein-Kariba bywoon. Die doel van die beraad is om die jeug te poets
en blink te maak vir die toekoms. Daar gaan veral aandag gegee word

Fransie – rugby skop stof in die oë van
Lowveld High School!
Hoërskool Frans du Toit het ‘n vriendskaplike
wedstryd gespeel teen Lowveld High
gespeel.
Die Fransies het skitter rugby gespeel en het
al die kragmetings gewen.
Die uitslae is soos volg; O/14 wen 17 – 0,
O/15 wen 13 – 12, O/16 wen 26 – 7, 1 ste span
wen met 46 – 17.
Die Fransies wil graag al die ouers en
oud-skoliere hartlik bedank vir hul lojaliteit en
getroue ondersteuning.
Kingfisher plans
walk for charity
Kingfisher Private School are planning to
host a charity Walk on June 26.

Juniors geniet eerste skietdag
S A Jagters Mopani Tak het op 30 Mei hulle
heel eerste amptelike junior skietdag aangebied.
Dit is bygewoon deur 13 juniors en hul
ouers.
Hannes Smit, vuurwapen instrukteur het die
leiding geneem en die jong skuts touwys
gemaak in die veilige hantering van handwapens,
die korrekte posisie om in te neem en
hulle is elk bygestaan deur hul ouer of deur 'n
b a a n o f f i s i e r.

Skakel hulle gerus indien u belangstel om
juniors te laat deel neem aan gratis aktiwiteite.
Alle juniors en hul ouers is welkom. Hulle
vergader die laaste Maandag van die maand by
die Boogskiet Klub om 18h30. Daar word hulle
geleer van knope maak, die sterre lees, die
bewaring van die natuur, spoor sny ens. Daar
sal nou ook op ‘n gereelde basis "Windbuks"
skiet plaasvind. Hou die koerant dop vir kennisgewings
in die verband.
Op 6 Junie is daar 'n skietdag vir volwassenes
by die Dorpsbaan. Buffel Tabel,
Vlakvark Funshoot en Groepering. Indien u nie
oor 'n swaarkaliber vuurwapen besit nie, kan
jy ook met 'n kleiner kaliber skiet, maar daar
sal net nie 'n skietbalkie toegeken kan word
nie.
Registrasie tussen 07:00 en 07:55. Skiet
begin om 08:00.

Hulle het die afgelope week
met Louis Trichardt afgereken.
Die a-span wen 4 -0 en die
C span wen 3-1.
Die gholf span het ook gedurende
die seisoen teen Hoërskool
Merensky, Stanford
Lake College en Louis
Trichardt gespeel en hulle
baie goed van hulle taak
gewkyt.
