Honey Creek State Park<br />

Situated on a hillside<br />

area overlooking <strong>Grand</strong><br />

<strong>Lake</strong> on 30 acres down<br />

State Park Road, off<br />

US Highway 59S. The<br />

Park offers RV sites<br />

with water and electric<br />

hookups, tent camping,<br />

picnic area with cooking grills, and two group<br />

picnic pavilions that can accommodate 100 <strong>to</strong><br />

150 guests. A courtesy fishing dock and 4 stall<br />

courtesy boat dock is also available. An outdoor<br />

swimming pool is open from Memorial Day<br />

weekend through Labor Day. The park offers a<br />

children’s play area with playground equipment<br />

and a 2 mile walking path.<br />

Bernice State Park<br />

Gradually sloping <strong>to</strong><br />

pebble <strong>be</strong>aches and<br />

shallow waters makes<br />

this Park a favorite spot<br />

for swimmers and sun<br />

worshippers. Houses <strong>the</strong><br />

only 3,000 square-foot<br />

nature center along <strong>the</strong><br />

1,300 miles of <strong>Grand</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> shoreline. Park<br />

facilities include camping sites for <strong>the</strong> RV<br />

and tent camper. A group picnic shelter will<br />

accommodate up <strong>to</strong> 200 persons equipped<br />

with electricity, water and a cookout grill. Two<br />

lighted boat ramps and a low water fishing<br />

bridge located just west of <strong>the</strong> park. A hiking<br />

trail, naturalist activities and nature programs<br />

are offered. The park is 88 acres in size, with<br />

recreational facilities on approximately 15<br />

acres, located one-half mile east of Bernice on<br />

SH 85A.<br />

Cherokee State Park<br />

Located just <strong>be</strong>low <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Grand</strong> River Pensacola<br />

Dam east of Langley <strong>to</strong><br />

River Road, <strong>the</strong>n one<br />

mile south, this Park sits<br />

on 187 acres. A nine-hole<br />

golf course, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong><br />

Cherokee Golf Course<br />

is an added activity available here. The park<br />

includes semi-modern sites for RV camping as<br />

well as tent camping, day-use picnic areas, a<br />

swim area and marina as well as 3 group picnic<br />

pavilions with electric and water that will each<br />

accommodate 150. The Park is divided in<strong>to</strong> 3<br />

Disney/Little Blue<br />

State Park<br />

This 32 acre Park is located two blocks east of<br />

Disney on SH 28, <strong>be</strong>tween <strong>the</strong> floodgates of<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> River Pensacola Dam. The Park has<br />

a boat ramp, 80 campsites some with electric<br />

and water and o<strong>the</strong>rs that are primitive. There<br />

are picnic areas and a playground as well as a<br />

sheltered picnic area.<br />

Twin Bridges State Park<br />

At <strong>the</strong> north end of<br />

<strong>Grand</strong> <strong>Lake</strong>, this 63acre<br />

Park has both semimodern<br />

and primitive<br />

camping along with an<br />

RV dump station. There<br />

are picnic shelters, grills,<br />

restrooms with showers<br />

and a playground. There is a swimming <strong>be</strong>ach<br />

with a bathhouse as well as a fishing dock and<br />

boat ramps.<br />

Bernice Nature Center<br />

Completed in 2006<br />

this 3,000 square-foot<br />

facility is destined <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>be</strong>come one of <strong>the</strong> “must<br />

see” places along <strong>the</strong><br />

shores of <strong>Grand</strong> <strong>Lake</strong>.<br />

Live exhibits of native<br />

creatures, a view inside<br />

an active <strong>be</strong>ehive and a 1,000 gallon aquarium<br />

filled with local fish are just a few of <strong>the</strong><br />

highlights which can <strong>be</strong> found inside. There<br />

is a full-time Park Naturalist on-duty along<br />

with classroom facilities. Tours are available<br />

Explore <strong>the</strong> Bernice Wildlife Refuge<br />

Nature Trail<br />

Walk along <strong>the</strong> onehalf<br />

mile paved trail or<br />

venture on <strong>the</strong> primitive<br />

trails that wind through<br />

woodlands, across two<br />

creeks, along meadow<br />

land and out on<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

shoreline of <strong>Grand</strong> <strong>Lake</strong>.<br />

Climb <strong>the</strong> observation <strong>to</strong>wer over looking <strong>the</strong><br />

lake <strong>to</strong> watch a variety of water fowl ba<strong>the</strong> in<br />

<strong>the</strong> sun along a quiet <strong>be</strong>ach.<br />

While walking <strong>the</strong> trail, keep an eye open for<br />

animal tracks. <strong>You</strong> might even surprise deer as<br />

<strong>the</strong>y s<strong>to</strong>p <strong>to</strong> enjoy <strong>the</strong> plum, persimmon and<br />

honey–suckle thickets. Fox, coyote, <strong>be</strong>aver, as<br />

well as o<strong>the</strong>r critters call <strong>the</strong> area home.<br />
