Authors Maud Page Maud Page took up her appointment as Curator, Contemporary Pacific Art at the Queensland Art Gallery in February 2002. she curated the ‘Pasifika Divas’ component of the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in 2002, ‘island beats’ (2004), and has been a member of the curatorium for the Asia Pacific Triennials in 2002, 2006 and 2009. Prior to joining the Gallery, Maud lectured in museum studies at the university of sydney, and was Curator and Coordinator of Pacific Projects at the djamu Gallery, Australian Museum, where she curated Michael Parekowhai’s ‘Kitset Cultures’ in 1999. Maud was also a member of the curatorium for Quai branly’s ‘Photoquai biennial 2009’ in Paris. she is curator of a major exhibition of contemporary New Zealand art for the Queensland Art Gallery in 2010, which will also tour to the National Gallery of Victoria. sean Mallon sean Mallon is senior Curator Pacific Cultures at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. he is a New Zealander of samoan and irish descent and holds an MA in Anthropology from Victoria university, Wellington. sean has written a number of publications on samoan art and contemporary Polynesian art, including samoan Art & Artists: O Measina a Samoa (Craig Potton Publishing, 2002) and is co-editor, along with Pandora Fulimalo Pereira, of Pacific Art Niu Sila: The Pacific Dimension of New Zealand’s Contemporary Arts (Te Papa Press, 2002) and Speaking in Color: Conversations with Artists of Pacific Island Heritage. sean is co-contributor, with Nicholas Thomas, Peter brunt and Mark Adams, to Tatau: Samoan Tattooing, New Zealand Art, Global Culture (Te Papa Press, forthcoming). With Peter brunt, he is co-convener of the Marsden funded research project Art in Oceania: A History. 80 imelda Miller imelda Miller is Assistant Curator, Torres strait islander and Pacific indigenous studies, at the Queensland Museum, where she has worked extensively with the Australian south sea islander Kastom Collection for 13 years. An Australian with ni-Vanuatu heritage, imelda’s principal area of interest is the history of south sea islander labour in Queensland. she assisted with the research and development behind the 2001 exhibition ‘refined White’, which followed the history of around 62 000 people, predominantly from the solomon islands and Vanuatu, transported to Queensland between 1863 and 1904 as labour for the Queensland sugar industry.
