It is not usually necessary to cover or enclose your MATCH
facility, but doing so does have several advantages. Protection
from the elements, control over light levels, expanded breaching
and roof entry training, and secured covered storage are just a
few examples.
Based on customer needs, Action Target has designed and
installed many different types of overhead structures for use
with MATCH. We have used everything from simple pole barn
roofs to more complex metal structures and complete enclosures.
Many years of experience have taught us that the best choice
for most applications is the traditional metal Quonset Hut, which
is the half-cylinder building often associated with barracks or
airplane hangars.
The fundamental design of a Quonset Hut is ideal for a MATCH
enclosure for the following reasons:
1. Just like an arched doorway, the half-cylinder shape is
extremely strong and reinforces itself to provide wide spans
and large open spaces with no vertical supports to get in
the way of your training.
2. The initial cost is very low, and compares favorably with less
expensive but less effective pole barn applications. No
costly footings are required, and the entire structure can be
surface mounted on a single monolith slab.
3. Ongoing life cycle and maintenance costs are greatly
reduced because the galvanized aluminum materials in the
Quonset Hut do not require the significant painting, water
sealing, and other regular maintenance required for wooden
pole barn structures.
