How the Barclays Executorship
Service can help
When you make a will through the Barclays Will Writing Service, you need to tell us (by
completing Section 3 of the Will Instruction Form) who you wish to appoint as your executor.
An executor is the person who will be responsible for administering your estate and carrying
out your wishes. It can be a complicated and time-consuming job so you need to think
carefully about who the best person will be.
Appointing Barclays as your executor will relieve someone of
a great number of responsibilities, including:
• registering the death and arranging the funeral
(if required)
• identifying and tracing the assets of the estate
• interpreting the terms of the will (in light of family
circumstances when you pass away) and establishing
contact with those entitled
• obtaining a Grant of Probate (which proves the will
is valid)
• agreeing and settling lifetime tax liabilities
• collecting the assets and paying debts
• administering assets at home and abroad, such as
property and businesses, until they can be sold or
transferred
• agreeing and settling liability to Inheritance Tax and
preparing estate tax returns
• distributing the estate to the beneficiaries
• acting as trustee of any trusts arising under the will
• preparing all necessary accounts and documentation

options in Section 3 of the Will Instruction Form. The option
you select will depend on whether you wish Barclays to act
as sole executor, jointly with another or subject to someone
