During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military custom and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. He is the son of Sonny Belflower, of Cocoa, Fla., and Dee Corley, of Canton. Belflower is a 2007 graduate of Cocoa High School in Florida. ■ Navy Seaman Apprentice Sylvia J. Pelletier, daughter of Joanne M. Webster, of Canton, and Matt H. Pelletier, of Greenville, S. C., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Pelletier completed a variety of training, which included first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. Pelletier is a 2006 graduate of Cherokee High School. ■ Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Heather E. Cocco, daughter of Kelley Vincent of Woodstock and James Cocco of Cumming, recently received a Letter of Appreciation while assigned to Headquarters Squadron 36, Marine Aircraft Group 36, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. Meyer, both of Woodstock, were among 200 teens who graduated from the National Guard-sponsored Youth Challenge Academy (YCA) at Fort Gordon Aug. 23. Georgia's YCA is a 22-week voluntary residential youth program for teenagers age 16-18 who have dropped out of high school. The military-styled program provides teens with the opportunity to complete basic academic courses leading to a high school diploma or GED. The voluntary program also provides teens with valuable life skills training emphasizing academic, physical fitness and personal discipline and responsibility. ■ Navy Seaman Recruit Emmerson A.
