Danone Waters at logport
Danone Waters expands its Volvic and
evian transportation infrastructure /
Bohnen will start up a new Danone logistic
center in the Port of Duisburg in 2010
Duisburg, 3 July 2009: Reiner Bohnen Internationale
Spedition GmbH & Co. KG, a medium-sized logistic
service provider, will start up its logport operations in
early 2010. The company will be responsible for the
warehouse logistics needed for the distribution of Danone
Waters’ bottled water brands Volvic and evian. A 30,000
sq.m. warehouse and office complex will for this purpose
be built by Garbe Logistics, a reliable logport partner of
long standing, on a property of 70,000 sq.m. Danone
Waters has developed a new railroad transportation
strategy for its logport project. Trains will move the water
directly from the two sources to the new warehouse and
help Danone to reach another milestone in shifting its
logistics from trucks to the railroads.
“Following the Hockenheim Center opened in 2006, our
logport distribution center is the next step we take to
accommodate increasingly strict requirements on logistic
systems and environmental compatibility,” said Danone
Waters supply chain manager Carsten Stelter.
“The Danone Group is a leading global consumer goods
supplier and the world’s second largest producer of bottled
water. We are proud that we were able to convince the
German subsidiary of Danone Waters to invest in North-Rhine
Westphalia. To implement the project, Danone Waters and we
have developed a customized logistic system,” stated
Duisburger Hafen AG’s Chief Executive Officer Erich Staake.
“This case demonstrates that new investors can be won even
under difficult economic conditions by offering an excellent
environment for the investment.”
Jürgen Bohnen, owner and managing director of Reiner
Bohnen Internationale Spedition GmbH & Co. KG remarked:
“After 15 years of outstanding cooperation, we are confident
that the arrangements we have now made will again allow us
to provide a first class service. We are very happy about this

new sign of Danone Waters’ trust. Conditions at logport are
ideal to address the challenge. The Port of Duisburg has given
us competent support for our project.”
The first warehouse of Danone Waters Deutschland in
Hockenheim opened in 2006 was an important step to shorten
distances traveled by bottled water to customers and to satisfy
environmental concerns through the use of the company’s own
railroad connections.
The new distribution center in Duisburg will also receive Volvic
and evian mineral water by train. The duisport Group built a
separate spur line for the delivery of the bottled water to
logport. The functions of the Danone Waters warehouse will
be the storage of the products, order picking and distribution to
the company’s customers in Germany.
Duisburger Hafen AG is the holding and management company
of the Port of Duisburg, the largest inland port in the world. The
duisport Group offers full service packages in the areas of
infrastructure and superstructure for the Port and logistics
location, including relocation management. Furthermore, its
