<strong>TRS</strong>-<strong>STAR</strong> <strong>Touch</strong> is a gesture capable multi touch<br />

solution based on Atmel’s patented Charged Transfer<br />

QMatrix method .<br />

Up to 64 discrete keys placed on ITO on Glass à excellent<br />

low cost solution for 3 .5“, 4 .3“ and with a very good<br />

linearity as keys are small .<br />

For sensors up to 9” we are using the MXt224 single<br />

chip touch controller with 224 nodes .<br />

From 10 .4” till 22”, we are using the MXt1386, 4 chip<br />

solution touch controller, with 1386 nodes .<br />

at <strong>TRS</strong>-<strong>STAR</strong><br />

Our <strong>TRS</strong>-<strong>STAR</strong> <strong>Touch</strong> sensors as well as tail length and<br />

position can be customized . In addition the sensor size<br />

can be bigger than the display to have a linear region<br />

plus a key region .<br />

Our <strong>TRS</strong>-<strong>STAR</strong> <strong>Touch</strong> PAD can have non rectangular<br />

shapes (i .e circle) and is operational till the border .<br />

Atmel maX<strong>Touch</strong> touchscreen controllers combine the<br />

Atmel patented Charge Transfer and either 8/16-bit or<br />

32-bit Atmel AVR ® microcontroller technology to provide<br />

unlimited touch (up to 16 touches), fast response<br />

time, and smart processing of a capacitive touch image,<br />

accurately regenerating and reporting the user’s interaction<br />

with the touchscreen .<br />

The advanced mXT616 and mXT1386 devices offer a<br />

high-performance architecture with a fast response<br />

time of >150Hz .<br />

They support grip suppression and palm rejection,<br />

giving users a more intuitive user experience .<br />

The mXT616 is a 616-node, 3-chip, 32-bit controller<br />

suitable for tablet PCs, mobile Internet devices, smartbooks,<br />

and PCs with touchscreens up to 10 .1-inches<br />

windows certificated .<br />

The mXT1386 is a 1386-node, 4-chip, 32-bit controller<br />

suitable for tablet PCs, mobile Internet devices, smartbooks,<br />

and PCs with touchscreens up to 22-inches .<br />

The mXT224 is a 224-node, single-chip, highly configurable<br />

controller suitable for mobile-phones and other<br />

<strong>TRS</strong>-<strong>STAR</strong> <strong>Touch</strong> Driver Support<br />

The <strong>TRS</strong>-<strong>STAR</strong> touch controllers are digitizer devices as<br />

described by their USB descriptor . This means operating<br />

systems like Windows 7 or OS X can handle their<br />

information without the need for an additional driver .<br />

In this case the touch can be used as a mouse substitution<br />

. But even on these operating systems there<br />

is no functionality to influence the touch settings like<br />

screen to sensor orientation or sensitivity . To be able<br />

to influence these kinds of settings on the life system,<br />

you need communication access to the controller and<br />

therefore you need a driver .<br />

The UPDD (Universal Pointing Device Driver) provided<br />

with the <strong>TRS</strong>-<strong>STAR</strong> touch controllers SMTC-T10 and<br />

SMT-CO16 is available for a couple of operating<br />

systems and give the system integrator a couple of<br />

ways to tailor the touch controller to their needs .<br />

In addition you can use the touch controllers not only on<br />

USB but also with a serial interface .<br />

The main features of the latest UPDD driver are as<br />

follows:<br />

Enhance the <strong>Touch</strong> Experience<br />

using the API<br />

Because of the operating system limitations a touch is<br />

normally just used as a mouse replacement .<br />

As of now only Windows 7 does offer limited multitouch<br />

functionality . But this is not built into the operating<br />

system itself but handled by a Microsoft ® API<br />

called touchpack .<br />

If you want to enhance your application with multitouch<br />

functions, you can use the touchpack functions Microsoft<br />

is offering . But on other operating systems you can<br />

use the UPDD API to achieve similar results .<br />

The UPDD API offers the ability to “route” the touch<br />

events to the application and not the operating system .<br />

And because it is up to you as the application programmer<br />

to do something with these information you can<br />

use up to 10 (SMT-C-T10) or 16 (SMT-C-O16) simultaneous<br />

touches to beef up your application .<br />
