ARTICLE VII<br />

HOURS AND WORK LOAD<br />

A. 1. Employees are expected to devote to their assignments the time necessary to meet their<br />

responsibilities. Employees shall indicate their presence for duty by placing a mutually<br />

agreed upon indicator in the appropriate column of the employee "sign-in" roster at the<br />

beginning of the employee workday.<br />

2. The full-time employees' regular workday shall be 7-1/2 hours in length except as provided<br />

in Article VII.D. of this document, and in emergencies.<br />

3. An employee's "in-service" day shall not exceed the length of the regular workday.<br />

4. If it becomes necessary for an employee to be absent for any reason, the designated<br />

administrator should be notified as soon as possible in order that appropriate arrangements<br />

may be made.<br />

B. All teachers shall have scheduled planning time exclusive of any regularly scheduled duties.<br />

Planning time is in addition to a scheduled thirty (30) minute duty-free lunch period, and homeroom<br />

or before or after school duties.<br />

1. Secondary and middle school teachers shall have at least five (5) planning periods weekly,<br />

one each day. In the event scheduling prohibits the above, the administrator shall confer<br />

with the teacher to reach mutual agreement on release from one or some combination of<br />

the following:<br />

a. Homeroom duty c. Late duty<br />

b. Early duty d. Cafeteria duty<br />

2. All middle and elementary teachers shall have no less than 250 minutes scheduled for<br />

planning time weekly.<br />

a. One planning time per day for middle and elementary classroom teachers will be in<br />

a block of no less than fifty (50) consecutive minutes during the student day.<br />

b. Planning time will be scheduled each day whenever possible. In the event<br />

traditional scheduling prohibits the above, the administrator and teachers will work<br />

together, through the Building Liaison Committee, to adjust schedules at the<br />

building level in order to reach this goal.<br />

3. Non-Classroom based teacher planning time:<br />

a. Planning time will be fifty (50) minutes in length at all worksites/buildings.<br />

b. Planning time will be a combination of two (2) of the following three (3) options:<br />

1) Before the student day<br />

2) During the student day<br />

3) After the student day<br />

c. In implementing the above 2 of 3 options, option “2” (during the student day) will be<br />

one of the two selected options.<br />

d. The non-classroom based planning time schedule in each building will be<br />

sent/distributed (to include the below items “e” & “f”) by the building Administrator<br />

to all the staff in each building.<br />
