and/or DCNJ considering hosting DCA 2009 conformation in October. Performance events may be held in nonconsecutive
weeks but are being discussed for the fall as well. Future events were outlined.
Future National Events:
DCA 2008 – Points earned toward the triathlon award will accumulate unchanged. The effects of the split
conformation/FT are undetermined at this time. The amount of work for host clubs over a 2 week period is
difficult at best. The availability of facilities for all events in close proximity time and distance wise is an
additional concern
DCA 2009 – See notes of Region VI.
DCA 2010 – Normal rotation would put it in Region II. Due to the fall date for 2009 the date for 2010 will
have to be April or later.
Unfinished business:
There was a discussion about the Basset Hound Club of America’s hunting hound test. It is a noncompetitive
pass/fail test. Joining in with the Bassett clubs has not worked well to date. The upper level tests expect a dog
to display pack behavior. The Basset Hound Club of America approached DCA to join in since a single breed
test would not be entertained by the AKC. The starter gun required may be in conflict with DCA’s no firearms
policy. The voicing requirement is a concern. The Petite Basset Griffon Vendeen national club is uncertain if it
will go to the AKC seeking approval of their test program. We may need to develop a different test than the
Basset hunt test that better compliments dachshunds hunting style. It was discussed if TAC should form a
committee to consider this. It would not be an AKC event. AKC is unwilling to approve any single breed tests.
It will be discussed during the next week with others and consider the responses we receive.
DCA 2006 did well financially last year. Kudos to all who worked so hard to make it so. This year will likely
be less so but should also be profitable, a point which will hopefully put our field events in good stead with the
DCA board as far as approving the programs and relaying their support from the membership. Special thanks to
all who contributed in time, effort and sponsorship.
New Business:
Following a revision of the VC program, the DCA Companion Events Committee and the Trial Advisory
Committee have recommended an "Award of Excellence" program to the DCA board, recognizing dachshunds
who earn any 3 championships with a DCA newsletter cover and a special plaque.
TAC has submitted a proposal to the DCA board to request a change to the rules allowing individual specialty
clubs to hold up to 8 trials per year
Meeting adjourned.
