<strong>in</strong>frastructures. Due to this, above all, great biological potential <strong>in</strong> addition to the<br />

absence <strong>of</strong> natural competitor – primary vegetation-that man destroys so as to obta<strong>in</strong><br />

new agricultural <strong>and</strong> urban areas, <strong>ruderal</strong> plants are <strong>in</strong>tensively predom<strong>in</strong>ant <strong>in</strong> these<br />

habitats.<br />

General <strong>characteristics</strong> <strong>of</strong> the <strong>in</strong>vestigated area.-The city <strong>of</strong> Kosovska<br />

Mitrovica, with its surround<strong>in</strong>gs, lies at the 42 0 53 ’ north latitude, 20 0 52 ’ east<br />

longitude , <strong>and</strong> 508-510 m altitude, <strong>and</strong> stretches to the farthest northern po<strong>in</strong>t <strong>of</strong><br />

Kosovo Valley. It is situated on the alluvial area <strong>and</strong> terraces <strong>of</strong> the Ibar <strong>and</strong> Sitnica<br />

Rivers, with the volcanic cup <strong>of</strong> Zvečan dom<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g the city (Figure 1).<br />
