Eastern expansion for SkyTeam<br />

Shanghai-based China Eastern and its daughter company Shanghai Airlines are<br />

scheduled to join SkyTeam in <strong>2011</strong>. China Airlines is also expected to join the alliance<br />

in the same period. Together with existing member China Southern, the four airlines will<br />

cement SkyTeam’s leading position in the Greater China region.<br />

The SkyTeam airline alliance provides customers from member airlines with access to an<br />

extensive global network. Passengers also enjoy benefi ts such as additional opportunities<br />

Business Class (WBC) passengers can<br />

look forward to an exquisite on-board<br />

dining experience. KLM has teamed<br />

up with Jonnie Boer, chef at De Librije<br />

(librije.com) in Zwolle – one of only two<br />

restaurants in The Netherlands with three<br />

Michelin stars - to create a special menu<br />

featuring a starter of smoked trout with<br />

creamy dill sauce. A choice of main courses<br />

includes succulent honey-glazed chicken<br />

with garlic gravy and macadamia nut mash,<br />

or braised veal medallion with lemon risotto<br />

and caramelised onions.<br />

“New routes and online services”<br />

Miami nice<br />

Following the recent introduction of<br />

fl ights to Kigali (Rwanda) and Budapest<br />

(Hungary), KLM has announced the<br />

launch of scheduled services to Miami<br />

(USA). KLM will operate four direct fl ights<br />

a week to Miami International Airport from<br />

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The route,<br />

serviced by MD-11 aircraft, brings the total<br />

number of KLM destinations in North<br />

America, served directly from Amsterdam in<br />

cooperation with Delta Air Lines, to 20.<br />

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is offering<br />

free Wi-Fi for one hour (two 30-minute<br />

sessions) for laptops and smartphones.<br />

Available throughout the airport, this new<br />

service allows passengers to get online<br />

between connecting fl ights or while<br />

waiting to board.<br />
