LAGHU <strong>YOGA</strong> VASISTHA<br />

That which is named Brahman through Atmatatwa<br />

is none other than the quiescent (or passive)<br />

aspect of this universe.<br />

Here the King said: All that you have taught me is<br />

quite reasonable. As prior to creation there is no<br />

creator, there is really no Universe. Hence the<br />

(objective) vision of all things really does not exist.<br />

Through your clear elucidation I have well<br />

understood and have be<strong>com</strong>e of the nature of my<br />

auspicious Self. Hence, I do not cognize all external<br />

objects as really existent. I have worshipped my<br />

(real) Self. Through the knowledge derived from<br />

the perception of many substances, I have <strong>com</strong>e to<br />

perceive them to be unreal. Through this Jnana, I<br />

have be<strong>com</strong>e the quiescent without thought and<br />

the Plenum like the Akasa. Then Kumbha-Muni,<br />

able to confer Atman (Self) upon the king caused<br />

him to cognise it, and said: The true discrimination<br />

of space, time, the spacious quarters, mental<br />

actions and the rest is only to understand the<br />

universe in its differentiated aspects. Though these<br />

distinctions have existed in you from a remote<br />

past, yet they will perish in you in a short time. The<br />
