Saturday 23rd June Dry Stone Walling Stone Cutting and Shaping Course Learn the techniques of stone cutting, shaping cheek ends and corbelling; all technical skills used by dry stone wallers. Some previous experience or attendance at a Taster day would be of benefit. Bring safety boots, outdoor clothing and work gloves. Course takes place in Shibden Park, Halifax HX3 6XG from 10.00-16.00. July 2012 24 Saturday 7th July The Wild West (Todmorden Centenary Way 1) Meet Alan Greenwood outside Walsden Railway Station at 09.45 for a 9.5 mile walk covering part of the Todmorden Centenary Way. Walk ends at Todmorden Railway Station (train or bus fare needed to return to Walsden). Bring snacks and plenty to drink as well as lunch. For further information, contact the leader on 0789 1624789. Wednesday 11th July Shackleton Knoll Meet Alastair Bishop in Midgehole National Trust car park entrance at 10.30 for a 6 mile walk to Walshaw and Lumb Bridge waterfalls. £5 car parking charge for people who aren’t National Trust members (car sharing recommended). Wednesday 11th July Colourful Calderdale 2 The Ugly Bug Ball Meet Chris Sutcliffe in Beechwood Park, north Halifax (in the car park off Heathy Lane) at 10.30 for a 2 hour stroll with your camera to photograph insects, flowers and trees. Thursday 12th July Big Summer Walk (short route) (longer route) Meet Ruth Wood at the main entrance to Todmorden Sports Centre, Todmorden at 12.30 for a choice of two walks around the park: 1 mile walk around the park or 2 mile walk around the park and woodlands. Saturday 14th July Big Jubilee Sing Come and celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee with choirs from around Calderdale. Event organised by Calderdale’s Schools Music Service and Countryside Service. Saturday 14th July Digging up the Past Festival of British Archaeology event. Come along to Stainland anytime between 10.00 and 16.00 to take part in a drop-in event with the Greater Elland Historical Society and Countryside Service staff. Follow the signs from Stainland car park (near the Red Lion pub) to the site of the digs. The dig will take place at the site of the old quarryman’s cottage. In addition there will be a simulated dig for children. Saturday 14th July Wildside Bike Ride 4: Todmorden to Lumbutts and Mankinholes A more challenging ride going up to Lumbutts and Mankinholes. Sunday 15th July A Tour with Anne Lister A tour of the Hall and grounds at Shibden (HX3 6XG) to find out more about Anne Lister and her fascinating life. Included in the Hall’s admission price. Wednesday 18th July Perambulation along the Pennine Way 4 Meet Chris Sutcliffe at 10.30 opposite the turning circle for Heptonstall, Bankfoot, on the A646 half a mile past Hebden Bridge heading towards Todmorden for a 7.5 mile walk that takes in a steep climb or two and open moorland.
