● Where road construction layers have been incorporated within<br />

the verge, providing edge support to the road structure, the<br />

reinstatement shall comply with the requirements of Section S8.6<br />

of the Code of Practice;<br />

● <strong>Verges</strong>, ditches and drainage courses shall be restored to their<br />

original profile, unless otherwise agreed.<br />

The following sections of the Code of Practice will also have an impact<br />

on works carried out by the Statutory Undertakers:<br />

● Section S3.4.1 - Excavated materials<br />

All excavated materials that are to be re-used should be protected<br />

from excessive drying or wetting during storage. Additionally, these<br />

materials should be excavated, stored, handled and laid so as to avoid<br />

contamination and loss of fines.<br />

● Section S3.6 - Drainage<br />

Any drainage disturbed during excavation shall be immediately notified<br />

to the owners, and restored to the requirements of the owner; see<br />

Section S11.4.<br />

● Section S2.3.1 - As-laid profile<br />

All fixed features, e.g. kerbstones and related pre-cast concrete<br />

products, channel blocks and drainage fixtures, surface boxes and<br />

ironware, shall be laid to coincide with the mean level of the<br />

immediately adjacent surfaces. The maximum allowable tolerance<br />

between the levels of the feature and the immediately adjacent<br />

surfaces shall not exceed plus or minus 6mm.<br />

The Statutory Undertakers should route new mains clear of the root<br />

system of existing trees. The information should be brought to the<br />

Statutory Undertaker’s attention when notification of proposed work<br />

is received under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.<br />

Normally, where apparatus is installed underground in a maintainable<br />

highway, the Statutory Undertakers should consult the street authority<br />

about the appropriate depth of cover of the apparatus and its lateral
