Harvesting of Grass<br />
<strong>Verges</strong> by Farmers<br />
The <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong> would consider a request by the National<br />
Farmers’ Union for the harvesting by farmers of grass verges, subject<br />
to conditions to be stipulated by the Environment, Economy and<br />
Culture Directorate and to full indemnity being given to the <strong>County</strong><br />
<strong>Council</strong>.<br />
Milk Vat Stands<br />
The construction of hardstandings in the highway verge measuring 2<br />
metres square, for use as milk vat stands is permitted subject to<br />
specific conditions stipulated by the Environment, Economy and<br />
Culture Directorate.<br />
Grazing Of Animals<br />
Provided a farmer obtains prior consent from the <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong>, the<br />
grazing of animals, e.g. goats, may be permitted on highway verges at<br />
locations where visibility will not be obstructed. Any animals left to<br />
graze on highway verges must be tethered and not allowed sufficient<br />
scope to encroach onto the carriageway, cycleway or footway.<br />
Storage of Timber and<br />
Other Materials on<br />
Roadside <strong>Verges</strong><br />
The storage of building or construction materials, felled timber and the<br />
like on roadside verges is discouraged. However, in exceptional<br />
circumstances it may be possible to permit such storage subject to<br />
conditions stipulated by the Environment, Economy and Culture<br />
Directorate and full indemnity being given to the <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong>.
