Esha Universal has changed
the way we think about Roofing
ESHA UNIVERSAL is a new standard
of roofing when it comes to quality
and environmental care, it is a unique
type of membrane more flexible and
stronger than conventional roofing
with greater stability and durability.
Universal owes its outstanding
performance to its extraordinary
composition and homogenic
character: a POCB compound
reinforced with polyester and
stabilised with glass. To manufacture
this unique product a new
production method has been
developed and patented.
ESHA UNIVERSAL has been created
in response to the growing demand
for products that contribute to
reduced energy consumption and
damage to the environment. It can
be easily installed in various one-layer
applications and most importantly
ESHA UNIVERSAL is totally recyclable.
ESHA UNIVERSAL has been subject
to Life Cycle analysis involving rigid
test in the total life cycle of the
product and its environmental
impact. The research proved that
by selecting Universal, impact on
the environment is greatly reduced.
The European Agrément certificate
K1190 attests to the performance
and quality of Esha Universal and
the suitability of the membrane in
a given roofing system.
Of course even with a unique roofing
system as Universal, Esha still
guarantee the product against failure
and consequential damage. Where
required an All In Guarantee is
available which also protects against
failure of the contractor or supplier
and even the client’s surveyor
costs and removal of site debris
are included.
Everyone agrees CO2 reduction is a key
to sustainability for the planet, Esha
already achieve this with their bitumen
balance programme. Independent
research verifies that recycled content
incorporated in 1m2 of Esha roof
membrane equates to a reduction
in CO2 generated, equivalent to that
emitted whilst driving 1km in a car.
The current process is optimised in
phase 1 at 40% recycled content.

The European Life programme has
co-funded many projects developing
solutions to environmental issues.
Esha’s development of recycling
facilities for waste roofing
membranes has earned a grant of
11.25 million to further improve and
expand this facility to demonstrate
technically and economically a
feasible alternative to incineration
and landfill. Esha expects to move
current volumes of 12,000 tonnes
recycling to 50,000 tonnes in year
three of the programme.
Esha built it’s first recycling plant in
1994. In year 07 capacity will reach
12,000 tons per year enabling many
products to contain upwards of 40%
recycled content. To protect the future
Esha Universal is designed to be
totally recyclable which means no
harmful chemicals or heavy metals are
used in the product. This means that
virtually every ton of Universal
removed from a roof in 30 or 40 years
time will be reusable. This completes
the virtuous circle of bitumen balance
by recovering earth’s resources and
reusing them time and time again.
