Strophitus undulatus Say 1817 was previously encountered at four sites in the Middle Potomac River basin (Figure 19). In 2009, S. undulatus was collected at three sites (Table 1). Corbicula fluminea is a non-native bivalve that was introduced in the United States around the 1920s (Counts 1986) and has been documented throughout much of the flowing waters of Maryland. In 2009, C. fluminea was collected at 31 sites; seven sites were where they were previously encountered. They were found in the Gilbert Swamp, Conocheauge Creek, and Middle Chester River watersheds for the first time. The statewide distribution of C. fluminea currently represents 293 sites within 69, 8-digit watersheds of Maryland (Figure 21).
