In order to reach the optimal tension a nut and a bolt have to be tightened not only with the right torque but also with a specified torque angle. The torque only indicates the power with which a bolt is tightened. However, it says nothing about the real pre-tensioning force between the bolted workpieces. If the pretensioning force is too low a bolted joint can become loose. If the pretensioning force is too high it can cause the bolt to break.
