Simeon Guss, great-grandfather of Rumina Elizabeth Guss, was born February 15, 1773
in East Vincent, Chester County, Pennsylvania, sixth of seven children of Charles and
Anna Maria (Shunk) Guss.
Simeon lived at his parent's house until he was 31, and then moved to Perry County,
near Loysville in 1804 and to Milford, Juanita County in 1815. He took his son Abraham
to Milford for one year to try out the business prospects before moving the whole
family. He was a shoemaker.
In 1813, he executed a deed transferring land to two of his sons and in it he is
described as a soldier in the United States Army. But another source says he asked to
enlist but was rejected because of his age and health. He is believed to have served as
a soldier in the war of 1812.
Simeon married Barbara Knerr in 1791 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Barbara was
born May 10, 1768 in East Vincent, Chester County, Pennsylvania, fifth of nine children
of Heinrich Jacob Knerr and Elizabeth Mueller, both of Germen descent.
Simeon and Barbara had ten children, all born in Pennsylvania.
Simeon died April 20, 1818 in Milford, Juniata County, Pennsylvania. Barbara died May
26, 1843 in Mifflintown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania. Simeon and Barbara are buried
at St. Mary's Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania.
