Race 12 Selections by K.B.M. THE HORSEPLAYERS JOURNAL
4 MACH OF BALLYKEEL broke out of a major slump when he cruised to an easy win versus foes at Flamboro Downs on Apr. 14. He was almost
two weeks out of the box when he resurfaced at Woodbine on Apr. 27, and I like what he did in that mile considering how far back he was at the half.
Driver Sylvain Filion was 15 lengths off the lead with the gelding at that point, but he rallied to finish fourth beaten less than five lengths. Top call.
6 WEB CAM changed tactics in his latest assignment and his come-from-behind approach earned him a fifth-place cheque. He was far back in the
early going in that effort, but made solid gains in the back-half of the mile. He walked home in his previous outing after being rolled through some
crazy fractions. The gelding returns to the same level tonight and gets to work from the centre of the starting gate. I'll look for him to be a factor.
1 AS DUHARAS is 13 starts into the season and he's still trying to find the winner's circle for the first time this year for trainer Eric Cote. The gelding
had the rail to work with last time, and after getting away in the middle of the pack and struggled late and wound up finishing seventh. He still paced
his mile in 1:52.4, and with type of speed he should be able to work his way into contention tonight. I'll look for him to hang around for a share.
8 ROLL ON lived up to his name last week when trainer/driver Roger Mayotte hustled him to the front and tried to take no prisoners. The gelding
was overtaken by three foes in the late stages of that assignment, however, but I thought it was a step in the right direction for the gelding. He was
really struggling in efforts leading up to that performance. After getting the carbon blow out of his engine he might be worth a look once again.
THE FOLLOWING LISTED IN POST POSITION ORDER
(2) HIGHLAND BOGART has done good things in his first two starts off-the-bench for trainer Marty Fine, who takes him out of a claiming class and
tries him in a conditioned event tonight. The son of Modern Art might find this group a bit tougher. I wouldn't be surprised if he grabbed a share.
(3) BEAUTIFUL SOUL went through a real dry patch for quite some time, but he's shown signs of life in his last two outings for trainer Kevin Benn.
The son of Northern Luck eked out a win in come-from-behind fashion at Rideau Carleton Raceway in his latest. He's one to consider at a price.
(5) CAMS TUX has really gone through some tough times in recent weeks for trainer Zeljko Bosnjak, and that has prompted him to turn the pacer
back over to former trainer David Frey. The pacer went 2-for-3 for his barn earlier this year. The gelding has a license to improve in here.
(7) FULL CIRCLE KING had no luck in his last three tries at Woodbine, and that prompted trainer Brenda Duncan to take him to Flamboro Downs
for some confidence builders in his last two attempts. He hit the board in each of those efforts and now tries to keep the ball rolling as he returns.
(9) PACIFIC WESTERN hits rock bottom from a competition standpoint. That change has to be noted. Demers has surprised in the past more than
a couple of times. Maybe.
(10) DADDY WARBUCKS has hit the board in five of his last six attempts, but he's still 0-for-14 in the 2013 campaign for trainer/driver Gerry
Belanger. The gelding has the daunting task of dealing with Post 10 tonight, and as a result I'll have to take a pass on him until he draws better.
