Professional career
The MINAS Sustainability Network
Introduction
The MINAS Sustainability Network is an informal cluster of
companies, memberships in boards and personal relations.
It originated in the professional career of Klaus Woltron (see
CV attached), his participations in various Companies,
Boards and professional alliances and numerous publications
(books, articles, contributions in radio and TV.
Starting as an engineer with a doctors – degree in metallurgy, Klaus Woltron, born
1945 in Austria, began his career as a project manager for core internals for
nuclear reactors, primary circuit pumps for nuclear power plants in Austria,
Germany, France and Iran. Besides this he acted as a project manager for a space
simulation chamber for the Soviet Institute for Biophysics in Moscow.
Later on he was sent to Brazil by an affiliated company of Siemens (KWU) as a
Manager for Technology transfer in the area of the production of nuclear reactors.
Called back to Austria, he acted as a board member and, later on, as CEO of one of
the biggest plant construction companies in Austria. He initiated a department for
Environmental Engineering and Advanced Power generating technologies in this
Corporation (former SPG Simmering Graz Pauker AG, now affiliated partially to
SIEMENS and Austrian Energy AG) and developed it to the biggest supplier of flue
gas cleaning equipment, Denox – plants, fluidized bed combustion, waste
incineration, toxic waste treatment and cogeneration equipment in Austria.
In the 1980- ies he acted as the key industrial person in the huge project
“Umweltmusterstadt Wien” (Environmental Pilot City Vienna), organizing the
supply of technology and equipment for the restructuring und upgrading of the
Viennese waste incineration and waste – to – energy – systems, including toxic
waste and wastewater disposal.
After being responsible for the organizational design of the VA Tech Group (the
biggest industrial plant construction company in the Austrian states Industry) he
joined ABB Austria as CEO and led the restructuring of this energy – related
corporation and the integration in the enormous worldwide ABB network.
The MINAS Sustainability Network
1994 he decided to form his own company, MINAS Beteiligungs – und Management
GmbH. in Vienna. He took over shares of various companies, participated in and
directed the restructuring of numerous medium – sized corporations and took over
functions in various boards (see CV).
Energy – and sustainability – related activities
Already the public political discussions in the times of nuclear excitement (1970 –
1995) inspired Klaus Woltron to dare new approaches in the area of power
generation and environmental technology. After studying the all – over - philosophy
behind and writing the Bestseller “Der Wald, die Bäume und dazwischen” in 1992,
he was appointed as a member of the board of Sustainable Performance Group in
Zürich, one of the first investment corporations targeting to Companies which are
active in a sustainable way. Meanwhile this corporation is directly responsible for
about 450 Mio. sfrs, the Fonds Management SAM Sustainable Asset Management,
which emerged with the growth of SPG, is managing a multibillion operation in
smart energy funding (see “LINKS”) and responsible for the Dow Jones
Sustainability Index.
2005 he was appointed by his friend, Dr. Richard Sandor, as a member of the
Advisory Board in the world’s largest public emission trading company, Chicago
Climate exchange (CXX) in Chicago, USA (Sandor – founded and owned).
In 2008 he founded the Private Equity fund ADVENGYS Advanced energy systems,
targeting to Early Stage corporations in the field of Renewable Energy, which, as
one of the first projects, is taking over 26% of the shares of ECRE European Center
for Renewable Energy Güssing AG (Energy – autonomous region in Austria with a big
variety of progressive power generating pilot systems and plants, including solar
plants, a production of solar cells and international training facilities for solar
craftsmanship).
This career of more than 30 years in energy and decentralized, advanced energy
applications ended up in a unique network of connections, experiences, personal
and business relations all over the world.
