Data processing was carried out using descriptive stat<strong>is</strong>tical <strong>an</strong>alys<strong>is</strong><br />

cons<strong>is</strong>ting of bivari<strong>an</strong>t <strong>an</strong>alys<strong>is</strong> of independence or association between<br />

variables by me<strong>an</strong>s of contingency tables (chi-square/X2 stat<strong>is</strong>tics). With<br />

these tables, our aim <strong>is</strong> to evaluate gender as a differentiating factor, due<br />

to the import<strong>an</strong>ce of women in the development of community-based<br />

tour<strong>is</strong>m.<br />

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION<br />

The most relev<strong>an</strong>t socio-demographic variables of the sample are<br />

shown in table 4.<br />

Once tour<strong>is</strong>t resources had been identified, the first aspect in th<strong>is</strong><br />

investigation was to ask the local community (the target of economic<br />
